We need a better genetics system!!!!

As the title says, we need a better genetics system. As someone who likes to play legacy gameplay, I like to go into CAS when the kids age to see how similar they look to their parents. I wish they had implemented the sims 2 genetics system into Sims sims 4. I can't tell you how aggravating it is for me to have to go back to CAS and edit them to make them at least look somewhat similar to their parents or even go as far as having to download mods. I'm not sure if they'll take this into account or if even people really care about stuff like this, but I would just like to hope that this will change in the near future.

  • So in the Sims 4 currently the way physical genetics work is they’re just directly from the parents, no ancestors’ genetics just the parents which I find a bit disappointing coming from someone who enjoys playing legacies. I would love to see physical genetics passed down from ancestors or even just from grandparents or great-grandparents would be enough. The chance for a child sim to end up looking like their grandparents or just inheriting their eyes or hair colours would be a nice change.

I’m not personally worried about the idea of adding recessive genes because of what the Sims 2 has demonstrated. In the Sims 2, from what I’ve heard so feel free to correct me, having recessive genes in game can actually make certain hair and eye colours disappear in the town after a few generations, over run by brunettes and black haired sims. So I don’t think recessive genes could work if you want the sims in town to look as unique as possible.

Does anyone have anything to add on the idea of a genetics update?

  • I’m in the same boat. I absolutely adore seeing how the kids grow up to look like, but they all seem to have the same main features and oftentimes their facial structure’s doing their own thing. I’m tired of seeing the same two hair and eye colours! I made a post like this with some suggestions, I really hope more people will come around and speak up. 🙏🏻

(I think someone moved my post here to prevent dupe posts??)

  • I’m not too aware of how the gene pool is coded, but I’ve both heard and seen that it’s pretty basic. It really bums me out that I only see the same mixes over and over again…

It’d be amazing if things like dominant + recessive genes would appear in the Sims 4, or at least a smaller chance to get creeping genetics from grandparents rather than a child being a simple mix between two parents! 😩 Cross-referencing the parents’ etc genes to make sure the new generation are properly inheriting instead of gaining the most random features, yada yada (I haven’t yet tested this part since November’s fix so pardon me if this already works well).

More hair and eye colours would be great, too; both natural and unnatural. More separate colours as well as colour variants (pinky red vs orange-y red, orange-y brown vs bold ginger etc). Maybe even an advanced custom section that lets you specify whether a sim’s hair colour is natural or dyed, for example. Or an option that lets you select differently shaped iris’. Especially with all of the supernatural related packs we have now!

I believe this would make story-based and generation-focussed gameplay a lot more exciting, I personally LOVE seeing what kind of features each of my sims’ offspring inherit. Of course, it’d also be a little more realistic.
