We should be able to click a dining table and select "call to meal"
If I remember correctly that was a feature in the old game.
Seems like an easy tweak :)

Golden_G94 to use "Call to Meal" you click on the plate itself. Is that not working in your game?
In the old version clicking the table made the household/party come to the dining table and eat whatever they wanted on the table at the same time and sit together automatically.
IN sims 4 you that option is on the plate of servings itself.
