Working shops complete with tills

Either Sims 2 or 3 had something like this.

Shop is a lot type with some premade shops but can also be custom-made similar to bars etc.

Sim enters lot similarly to a library. Can browse or buy items from shelves. Bookshop would use (any) bookshelves, greengrocers and other shops would have a retail shelf type (new item) which can be either a wall shelf (single-sided) or shelves island (double-sided), configured similarly to washbasin types:

  • Set to greengrocer, fruit and vegetables
  • Set to supermarket/grocery store, would show a variety of items such as cereal boxes, fruit, crockery etc. It could be possible to set per-aisle block but that's more complex. Maybe the Sim uses a trolley (shopping cart) while in the shop?
  • Jewellers would have a different shelf block type more befitting a jewellers. Here Sims can buy earrings, necklaces, wedding rings etc.
  • Garden shop where Sims can purchase more plant types for their residence along with gnomes and other garden-related features
  • Clothes shop using clothes rails as in Sims 2: https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Clothing_shop
  • Eco shop/gemstones crystals ornaments, windchimes

Sim can Browse the shelves (shows the purchasing list) and then add items to cart/trolley. The cosmetic layout of the greengrocers doesn't have to match actual content per-shelf, just cosmetics (e.g. apples, pears, bananas). When desired items selected and transaction completed, the Sim will go to the next available cashier as in real life.

Items added by pack:

  • Retail shelf and jeweller's shelf
  • Large shop doors and sliding supermarket doors
  • New fruit, vegetables, plants, decorative features, books, clothing, and decorations which are only available via purchases in the Sims' shops rather than build/buy menu. Basically any items from the shop types.
  • Sandwich board configurable to various shop types with different designs
  • Hanging shop sign
  • Picture windows (big windows) if not already in base game
  • Advertising billboards
  • Decorative elements for various shop types
  • Large shop signs (painting type)

  • Oh, and a Sim cashier should spawn at the till similar to coffee shops in previous games. Maybe some additional staff depending on shop type.

Coffee shops and cafes would also be cool. Unsure if available in other packs already.

  • Sims 2 shops were the best. Loved the grocery store and the clothes shop. We ca make shops in TS4 but they are not quite as much fun as those in TS2.

citymajor these things are indeed available in add on packs. I'd suggest taking a look at the Get to Work, Dine Out and Business and Hobbies packs if you don't have them. We can absolutely have stores, coffee shops, cafes. We can have jewellery stores with Crystal Creations added to either Get to Work or Business and Hobbies. We have sandwich boards, cashiers and store staff, advertising signs, shop items, mannequins, retail shelves. It's all available in these add ons.

Grocery stores/stalls are in Cottage Living and Horse Ranch but they are for your Sims to make purchases. You can create a kind of grocery store with these packs added to Get to Work or Business and Hobbies by making preserves, baked  items and Nectar to sell. You can also sell harvestables too. I have a number of stores that sell these items. For example I've got a garden centre with a shop attached selling homemade food items and rare harvestables. In the garden and greenhouse, customers can harvest the plants in exchange for helping out by tending the plants because it contains every plant in the game so it's a lot of work. They can also buy fertiliser and decorative items and plant pots. With Business and Hobbies you can even make a candy store. It helps to add the Fresh chef trait so the food doesn't spoil and your Sim can sell jelly beans, lollipops and candy floss. My Sim has a store selling these along with baked goods. With flower arranging from Seasons you can make a florists with either Get to Work or Business and Hobbies and sell flowers. That's my favourite kind of store. All my Sims go to my retail lots when I first move them into their homes. They buy their jewellery, collectables and all the decorative stuff there. Now that we have living house plants they buy their unbreakable plant pots there too, along with the B&H ceramic items.

Given how expensive the DLCs are individually, that's a lot of money to buy multiple hmm.
