“Blast From The Past” event (week 3) - “Repair or Replace the computer” problem

After completing the Time Travel Component interaction on a PC, the computer breaks and the next quest item is to repair that computer. When hovering over the task, the listed suggestions are to repair, replace or hire a repairman service.


HOWEVER, I selected the “insta-repair” option as my sim has level 10 handiness and that doesn’t seem to be compliant with the task. So I have a non-broken PC and this outstanding task.


Planning on putting the PC out next time it rains and see if that breaks it again. In the meantime, any suggestions on what else I can do? 

(At the very least hopefully this can be a warning for others who are yet to start this week’s event!)

 

 

SOLVED! After a couple of in-game days, the task resolved itself on its own, appearing with a pop up “Computer Back Online” (“Whew! That was indeed close. The computer is available again, and the Time Travel Component is intact and back in place.”)

    Repair or Replace Computer Emit challenge work around:   So I too had an unbreakable computer when it came to this part of the challenge.   Left it outside like suggested, nothing.   Finally SOLVED the problem.  

    1. Sell the unbreakable computer
    2.  Buy a non unbreakable computer
    3. Put it outside on a small round dining room table
    4. Next to the table Put a garden sprinkler and turn it on.   Computer will eventually start to spark.  DO NOT move the computer you will have to start all over.
    5. Sell the sprinkler
    6. Buy a dining chair to put in front of the table, can't fix the computer without one there.
    7. Either repair or replace the computer

    I tried that and nothing happens. As in playing a few 'days' in the game. Same char as the one with the component. It don't change.

    I reached the point in the time travel challenge where you are researching something on the computer and the computer is supposed to get broken by the research. The next task in the challenge is "repair the computer" however, when I was doing the research challenge task, the computer never broke. Since the computer is not broken, there is no way to repair it. So, I'm stuck on this step of the challenge because I cannot repair my computer.

    I have tried everything.  broke the computer in the library, couldn't repair or replace.  Bought an expansion pack so it rains outside.  Put a breakable computer on a desk outside.  Computer was fried in the rain.  Repaired.  No progress in event.  left it outside, fried again.  Ordered a repair service.  Computer repaired.  No progress in event.  Bought a new computer, same thing, no progress.  Salvaged another computer for parts, nothing.  Frustrating that can't even contact EA to troubleshoot.  🤬

    I did this at the library. Can’t repair or replace anything there. Came home tried the computer outside, have repaired a computer twice outside and it still isn’t giving me it. It’s also been multiple days in game and it isn’t magically fixing itself like with others. I didn’t even wanna do this dumb quest line but I can’t opt out of it. Fix the glitch EA or make it so I can delete the quest line so i don’t have to see it popping up every 10 mins!

    I had this same issue, except it was because my sim used a computer in a library. It was fixed the next day, but the task never went away. Any suggestions?
