B button won’t work in build mode after clicking an item

When I go into build mode on the Sims 4 and click on an item to place it, if I decide I no longer want to place the item and click B to go back, it doesn’t work. I thought it was my controller at first, but the B button works any other time I try and click it except for then. I’ve tried restarting my xbox, restarting the Sims and restarting my controller but nothing has worked. Any advice?

  • OwlAub10 I've noticed this recently on Xbox Series X too.

I updated my controller and cleared my locally saved data but it's still happening. I've got a problem with hand pain and it's been really aggravating for me actually. But what I've found is that sometimes it's taking as many as 6 to 10 times to get B to work. It does eventually work for me but I have to keep tapping it. It's much worse when using Debug I find. I was looking through the debug catalogue and selected one item that was enormous, I just wanted to look at it but it blocked my entire build and I was frantically tapping B to let go of it! It did work finally thank goodness. I think it started around the time we received the anniversary HBD items. If I'm using the MOO cheat I end up placing the item if I can and just deleting it.

The only advice I can give is to keep tapping the B button, pausing after each tap. It should eventually work and let go of the item.

simsplayer818 I’m so glad i’m not the only one, it’s really frustrating and so weird. Sometimes the button will work, sometimes it doesn’t work at all, and other times, like you said, it works after a couple taps. What I found as a good solution for when B doesn’t work at all, is I click the Toggle Cursor button, and that lets go of the item. Unfortunately it also exits you out of the item menu you were in, so you have to go back into it each time. But it’s faster than spam clicking B for 30 minutes, so that’s what i’ve settled for. I don’t know if that will help you at all, but I hope it does especially if your hand is hurting.

  • Thanks OwlAub10 I've trawled through old reports to see if I could find anything similar and found a solved tech post from 3 years ago with the following tips from EA. I haven't tested this yet myself except for the replacement batteries and updating the controller. It says to powercycle the console too, which I have already done.

🔹Replace the batteries in your controller

    🔹Manually power-cycle your controller

🔹Connect your controller to your Xbox using a USB cable

🔹Check for a firmware update on your controller

🔹Restore your controller's button mapping settings to default-

🔹Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

🔹Under Profile & system, select Settings.

🔹Under Devices & connections, select Accessories.

🔹On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select Configure.

🔹Select Restore to default to set the controller back to its original button mapping.
