@HeliosTheGamer I just made several open stairwells and didn't run into the issues in my game that you described. The ways I remove the walls I don't give me the terms 'hide wall' or 'delete wall'? I replace or use the wall/fence tool while holding control in order to delete or replace the walls &/or fencing when making the open top of the stairwell.
I've made a video of how I create a stairwell normally, plus I then I also created an outer 'room/building' afterward, in case this is what you were having an issue with.
