Can I move my EA folder from one location to another?

So I might just be completely daft and not looking in the correct place, but I'm gonna ask just to double check.

When I installed the game a million years ago, I set my game library location to go onto an SD card I have, and the EA folder that contains the cache, mods, trays, saves, etc. sub folders *was* on my desktop. I'm wanting to move my EA folder onto the same SD card as my game library. I went into the settings and the only two things I can change is my library location and legacy game installers. Does changing the folder location for legacy game installers move my folder?

  • @IAmTaylorAnn  Origin settings only cover where the game's program files go.  If you want to move the Sims 4 user folder, you'll need to set up a symbolic link.  Here's a guide:

Please make a backup copy of the Sims 4 user folder before you try this, just in case something goes wrong.

And keep in mind that having the user folder on an SD card can increase loading times, perhaps by a significant amount if you use a lot of custom content.

@whubble1817  The Origin Installs & Saves setting doesn't change the location of the Sims 4 user folder, as in, the one in Documents\Electronic Arts.  The game will always look for the user folder in that location, and if it doesn't find one, or at least a symbolic link to point to where the folder is actually located, it'll create a new folder with no content.

@puzzlezaddict Yes, I know what you are saying. I switched from using my D drive to my C drive when I got a bigger SSD without creating a symbolic link. I was under the impression that the symbolic link method is used when your game is located on one drive and your library files are on another. In this case, it sounds like the poster is trying to move their library files to the same location as their application files. Am I misunderstanding that? In any event, I will delete my post. You sound like you've got this.

@whubble1817  It doesn't matter where Sims 4 is installed, the game will always use the Documents directory to store user data.  That's how it's programmed.  I and many other people have installed the game on a secondary drive, and it doesn't affect where the user folder lands.  The symbolic link is used to point that folder away from Documents, usually to a secondary drive, including when that drive already holds the game's program files.
