Can no longer create open stairwell to basement level outdoors

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? whatever the most current one is
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All of them
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? 1. Create basement in an outdoor area (no floors above) which will become a stairwell. 2. Surround "ceiling" of basement (ground area where the border of the basement level is) with fence. 3. Place stairs going from the outside ground to the basement. 4. Attempt to delete basement ceiling/ground tiles from fenced in area over the stairwell.
What happens when the bug occurs? The ground tiles are unable to be deleted.
What do you expect to see? The ground tiles should disappear, leaving an open stairwell. I have made these on several houses, but since the recent patch it is not working. I tried on multiple lots in different neighborhoods and it is not working on any of them. I placed a lot that has a stairwell of this type already and tried to create a second one, and that did not work either.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. The most recent game patch.

When I try to create an outdoor, open stairwell going from the ground to the first basement level, the ground tiles within the fenced in stairwell area will not delete. This has worked for me in the past and since the most recent patch it is no longer working.

  • @zoe47  Good.

When I click on the ground with the sledgehammer to delete the tiles I get the same message; but the way to remove the 'ceiling'/ground tiles is by first clicking on the area above the basement, then clicking the yellow line that appears, which will give the option to: Remove Ceiling. If I choose that, the ground tiles disappear. Does that not work for you?

EDIT: Just read your reply - so does that mean that it works now?

What exactly was the method you tried before? A screenshot of the error would be good, in case it actually is an issue.

  • @zoe47 I tried this in a new folder with nothing added, and could not replicate.

I placed the stairs in different ways and with different sizes. Did you try in a new folder, on a new save? And could you post a screen shot of how it looks when you do it?

Here's how it looks for me. When I click the sledgehammer tool on the ground tiles within the fenced area above the stairs, it says "Nothing to delete."

I will try in a brand new save file right now and let you know what happens.

  • I tried it in a new game and it still didn't work.

I restarted the game, still not working.

I tried selecting the basement room, going up a level and removing the ceiling, and that worked finally! (I had tried it prior to my original post, and it didn't work at that time.)

    Thanks for your reply!

Yes, what you described above and screenshotted (removing the basement ceiling) is what I did that worked eventually. I had tried that method too before restarting my game, and it didn't work then. It did work after the restart. Thanks again!
