Can't cook any meals

Ever since the most recent update, my sims can't cook anything because the pop-up shows up empty. Since my mods are current, I am positive that is not the problem. My sims are also becoming unresponsive to commands as a result of this update; instead of following instructions, they will simply stand there until the command cancels and then move on to another activity. The update to "fix" it made the game even more unplayable, and I do not even want to enter the Reaper Awards. Right now, it is getting tiresome, and until the new EP releases at the end of the month, I doubt the game will receive another patch.
