Can't Modify Sims

Hello! Sorry I'm very new to this so if I posted on the wrong place please forgive me. Whenever I try and modify my sims with shift-clicking, it won't let me modify their features or identity like how old they are and what voice they have. Would this be because of the recent update or is it just me in particular that's experiencing it? I do have cheats enabled and all my sims are teen to young adult. Thank you!
