My sim is in the military career and she's earned a few medals. I could place them in the display case just fine before I moved her into a new house. Now that the medals are in the build mode inventory, I can't place them back into the display case. I've tried placing them on the ground and having my sim pick them up, but it says that she doesn't own these items. Please help!
This is interesting; I attempted to reproduce your issue by using one of my own military Sim's medal displays. In build mode, I can't even select the medals from the display case at all after they're placed into the display case. The only way I was able to 'free" the medals was to put the entire display case into the household inventory before they became available again.
It's strange that the medals are not being depicted for you as "owning" them though, as my own ended up accessible. Perhaps it has something to do with the medals first being generated?
I may have to try this differently with a new Sim; I am unsure how to fix this in the interim aside from the usual "rejoin the career and regain the medals" path; I don't think you should have to do that for medals you've already earned.
@Dingushu@burin077 I was fascinated by your findings, @burin077 , so I booted up my Strangerville save (with my military carer sim). I hope you don't mind my adding what I found...
I had never used the display case or his medals. Upon entering the lot I checked and the household apparently owns the display, as I found it in the household inventory. I found his medals in his personal inventory. I was able to drag his medals from his personal inventory into the display case. The only interaction possibility in build more or live mode after that was to admire the medals.
So... I had him select through his phone to move the family and take the furnishings. Upon entering a new lot with them that they moved into, I found the same thing you both did... The case and medals were all separated from each other and in the household inventory. I was able to drag the empty case into the new home and could not add the medals from the household inventory directly into the case, but Icould drag the medals onto the floor in build mode, then enter live mode and either tell him to 'put in inventory' for each, or drag them one at a time into him or into his inventory or drag them one at a time into the display case (from the ground or from his personal inventory).
So, I created a new Sim, moved her into a House, placed her in the military career. I unlocked the military display case (which I found in house inventory) and attempted to place the medals inside the case, but the case is not even interact-able (except in buy mode where the only choices are sell or put back into the inventory). Can someone please provide the step-by-step process for this Rube Goldberg thing? Why would I put the display case out unless I want it to display things.
@tkm4life I don't play the Sims 4 anymore but if memory serves correct you have to put the medleys in your Sims inventory then open your Sims inventory and drag the medals into the display case.
I'm having the same issue. In my case? I moved into a house in Strangerville. My sim met a scientist, I decided to move her in so they could work together to defeat the mother plant. Everything went well. I moved along with the male sim to complete the investigation. I also had the female work on her investigation. They both finished everything, including defeating the mother plant. But the last milestone for the female didn't unlock. I don't know why a scientist would forget their training. But the female was a scientist until she moved into the male's house, then she had no skills to create any cures. But this is just an overview of the situation.
I had the male join the military, he got to level five, and he received five metals. I was able to place all of the metals in the display case, at first. Once I defeated the mother plant, I had the couple move to Henford which is part of the Cottage Living DLC. When I went to set up the house? The game told me that I don't own the metals, so I can't put them into the sim's inventory or the display case. I can only move the metals in the build mode. I can place the metals on shelves while in the build mode, but I can't put the metals into the display case or move them in the living world. It's really nice that Maxis gives us all of these interesting things to enjoy. But it's horrible that they are rendered useless and frustrating because of short sightedness and/or glitches that plague this game. Is there an answer to this or will I need to wait for a patch? I was able to add a screenshot of the shelves and the display case.
I don't think there's any solution if you've lost ownership of the medals, except to recover and load an earlier save where you still owned them.
You probably need to remove the medals from the case before you move, and keep them in personal inventory unitl you return them to the case after the move. This is probably a good idea for any personal items that can be held in personal inventory.
That didn't work for me. I get a message that says my character doesn't own this object. Can't admire move in live mode drag during build into the case etc.
