This was a confusing one. Make sure there is a stuffed animal somewhere on your lot (like in another room) before you try to complete those tasks.
The toybox is on the first floor and the stuffed animal on the second. I thought that would work.
I struggled with this aswell, the stuffed toy was downstairs and the toy box was upstairs on mine too but I managed to get it to work by selecting 'place in world' on the stuffed toy when it was is in the sims inventory then interacting with the toy box using 'play with' 🙂

I found a fix for this. Sorry if anyone has said it yet. BUT... sell your old stuffed animal and buy a new one, and then put them in opposite corners of the lot.
