EA needs cloud storage for all games

My old laptop was damaged so I'm not able to recover the previous save and tray files. I had to get a brand new one laptop and when I downloaded EA app/Sims 4, all my content from the gallery/library was gone starting a whole new game save file. I have a lot of data saved on the file from over two years. I'm alright with not having the previous save file but other Simmers are not. We pour our time, dedication, and effort into this game. I don't understand why our save files and gallery have to disappear. Why doesn't EA have a cloud storage where these files are saved. I mean its 2023! EA SHOULD HAVE A CLOUD STORAGE AND THERE'S NO REASON WHY. I should be able to play with the same save file and gallery on another device without having to transfer data. As I've previously mentioned, my last laptop was damaged beyond repair meaning all the save files I had on it are gone unless I'm able to recover them from the hard drive which isn't likely. Google has a cloud storage drive so that way no matter what device you're using, you're able to access your files from years ago. EA needs to do the same. If we had a cloud storage linked and backed up to our EA accounts, so many of these issues would not be happening. I absolutely love the Sims but starting over a brand new game save is not worth recovering the last 2+ years I've spent with the same tray files. There are a lot of issues EA needs to fix, but this one is definitely fixable and there's no reason why this is still a problem for so many simmers. Make a cloud storage and connect it to the EA profile account. Each time a simmer saves a game or saves to gallery, auto-save to the cloud storage. It's simple. Easy Solution!

  • @prettyloserrrrr  Your Gallery content should all still be available on the Gallery.  Your Library content would be gone, sure, but the whole point of the Gallery is that it's online and accessible to everyone.  If you're not seeing your content, make sure you're signed into the correct account and that you've checked the box to show uploads with custom content.  Some uploads get flagged as having cc even when they don't.

As for the rest, I'm guessing EA absolutely does not want to pay for the incredible amount of storage necessary to back up Sims 4 saves.  There are literally millions of current or recent players, many of whom have a number of saves and all of whom have automatic backups of those saves.  I've seen individual saves go over 200 MB, which is not a lot by itself, but it's massive when multiplied by 20 consecutive "save as"s and a few hundred thousand players who play rotationally and understand the value of backups.

Users are responsible for their data and the health of their computers.  I'm sorry you lost your saves, but an external drive is cheap and easy to use, and so are other cloud storage services.  Some even offer free data up to a point, for example Google Drive.

For your old laptop, you could buy or borrow an external drive enclosure and see whether you can grab any data from it.  Drives are simple to remove from most laptops.

@puzzlezaddict Agreed. All of my Sims data (and also for other games) is saved out to OneDrive (Microsoft). Google, Dropbox, etc are also valid options, and free up to a certain data point.
