Elder gameplay pack

Do people want an elder pack? I would love for there to be more for my elders to do, so... here are some suggestions

1. Volunteering. This is a huge thing for many elders. You already have volunteering for kids and teens, so you could riff off that for elders. They could go to a rabbit hole for a few hours and come back with a moodlet (hopefully happy, but I'm sure there would be frustrating days as well).

2. Hobbies. The knitting stuff pack had the option to donate your knitting to charity, and I think doing this with other craftable items might be a great thing for elders. Woodworking, food preserves, needlepoint... yeah, all of it.

3. I wouldn't want this to be something required for every elder, but maybe a nursing home might be a nice addition for some. You already have dorms from Discover University, and you could riff off that for a nursing home.

4. Travel is important for a lot of elders. That could be a whole thing, especially with aspirations (see below).

5. New aspirations and whims for elders, like "spoil grandchildren," "tend community garden,""world traveler," etc.

6. Perhaps elders could foster children and pets?

  • @xochiquetzl_xkvn , I want any pack that adds gameplay to elders, not to mention teens and children! (Even toddlers would be fine too! )
So yeah, I basically want a Generations Expansion Pack!! 😁 But I wouldn't mind if each age (other than young adult and adult) had their own Game Pack! 😉

I've always found elders interesting, even as a child!  They were nicer than kids my age, often paid attention to me, and told interesting stories of the past, which was as close to time travel as I could realistically get! 😅  I liked to hear their "when I was your age, we did ________!" It made me realize that my life could have been totally different if I had grown up when they did. 😯😎

I used to play more with elders in TS2 and TS3, but there isn't as much reason to in TS4. I am happy that newer activities such as knitting, canning, and embroidery have been added though!!! It always confused me that my elders couldn't really work out and would be in danger of dying.... while that is true in real life of some elders, many elders exercise regularly and have extended their lifespans because they exercise regularly! 💪🚴‍♂️🏊‍♀️🏌️‍♂️🏀⚽🎳

I especially love your Aspirations for elders! 🥰 And this would come in handy for those Sims who complete their original Aspiration already! 😊

I'm a senior myself and I love making elder Sims to play.

I think if you are a Sims elder you should have an automatic cooking skill.

Good grief, I mean when you've lived long enough to be an elder you should have some sort of life experience, knowledge and know how, so a life reward skills set like cooking, baking, etc would be awesome.

I knit, and I love the knitting in the game.

I wish the create Sims didn't jump from adult to elder. It should go from adult to senior then elder. It's only fair.

I love this subject and what ya'll said about us seniors/elders. Thank you.

@rebclark  I absolutely agree about the cooking skill! When I'm playing a prebuilt family (e.g. the Goths) or a family I made in CAS, if there are two parents and a child I give them at least level 3 or 4 in cooking, and elders deserve even higher! Presumably they didn't eat only animal crackers and take-out their entire lives!  :D

And yes, more life stages in the game would be awesome!

  • @xochiquetzl_xkvn Great ideas!  Can we also add an option for grandparents to babysit their grandkids?  If my sim has parents, it would be great if there was an option to call Nana or Papa to watch the kids, when leaving for work or whatever.   :-)

    @JonaO703  YES!

I often move in retired elder relatives when there's a two career family with new kids, since the grandparents have already raised kids and are good at it!  Of course, that means they're super busy when the kids are toddlers, and then when the kids go to school they start doing hobbies.  One autonomously started taking programming side jobs, which I thought was awesome so I let her do it.

But if I hadn't moved in the grandparents, it would rock to just be able to call Nana or Papa over to watch the kids.

In my rotational family save, when (widowed) Nana moved next door to help with the kids, no one touched her room because it was understood that she'd be back in a few years.

@rebclark , , @xochiquetzl_xkvn , @JonaO703 , I completely agree that elders should have some skills (like Cooking skill) already!  However, I know an elder in real life that has barely even learned how to use the microwave, despite having a high IQ!  😅
However, I think most elders would at least have a cooking skill of 3.  Same for social and humor skills! You would have to be a hermit not to have learned a few social niceties by the time you are an elder.  😊

@rebclark , I have always used the terms "elder" and senior" interchangeably, since that is what I've always heard both terms being used for. I suppose it could differ depending on country or region, but even in  books, TV, and movies I usually have heard both terms mean the same thing.🤔  So, I'm curious as to what makes them different for you!  ? 🧐

It is pretty much the same.

What makes them different to me? Well, a Senior is higher up in age/grade as elder has reached the stage of more respect I guess you would say.

Pre-teen vs. teen, toddler vs. not as wobbly, lol.

It is all pretty close, just a transitional stage of maturing/ageing.

I think of myself as a senior mostly because my husband is an elder, older than me. I'm 69 he's 77. Terms of endearment are also there.

If you're 90 and someone sees you as a senior, then you are look'in good baby, lol.

Thank you for asking. All of you are very nice.

  • @xochiquetzl_xkvn I would love a pack for elders. Probably part of the reason why I want cars is to have an RV pack for them so elders can travel in a moving house in their retirement years. I would love more gameplay activities for them since most of the elders I grew up with were quite active playing water volleyball and water exercises. I would like some more work from home options for them too with more hobbies options.

    @rebclark , thank you for replying! 🥰

That is interesting! 🤨😎 I have never heard anyone use these two terms differently (though I'm sure you are not the only one!) 😀
My parents are just a little older than you and your husband, and they use the terms interchangeably , as do people from where I live (which is over 1000 miles from where my parents grew up).  But variations can occur from country, to region, to family, or even differ between members of the same family, so you never know! 😅

@Scobren , yes! While my dad isn't active as an elder, my mom sure is! 🥳 I also know other seniors who are active in various exercises, which is why I was so disappointed that seniors have such a hard time exercising in the game!  They can't even get on the treadmill just to walk because if they get on the treadmill, they are soon in danger of dying! 😬

Hopefully we either get an elder/senior pack, or we get a Generations pack that increases the interactions our elder Sims can do! 🤞  There is certainly a need for it, and it will make our families feel more fleshed out! 🥰
