Family Tree vs Culling

I don't have a full on suggestion more than a question. As I understand, the culling system in the game is to keep it from being bogged down as Sims generate and die in the game. Understandable. What I don't understand, is why must that effect the Family Tree?

Is there really no way to leave the genealogy unaffected by culling? The only way currently is to turn off culling, but that doesn't really help anything when it means your game is gonna start slowing down by the amount of Sims in it. With the success of Growing Together, I can only hope that maybe something will be addressed about the family tree, as it's sad to start any saves knowing that Sims will start disappearing off it.

  • I don't have a definitive answer but only what works for me and it may be different on various platforms. I'm on console.

About once a week I have my own culling session. I go through Other Households and cull randoms. I show no mercy. I keep townies down to below 100. Usually around 70ish on my most brutal days. I'm careful not to delete anyone important to game lore like Crumplebottoms, etc. I keep people that I recognise as pub owners, stall holders although I have deleted them before and they were of course just replaced. I'm not ashamed to admit I delete the ones in the weirdest outfits...step forward those in short shorts with Elton glasses and an eyeball ring and say farewell to the game!

This works for me and I've never lost anyone from family trees or any Sims that even have friendships with my Sims. By taking over the culling myself I choose the victims!

@simsplayer818 I do the same. I cull my own game on an irregular schedule. Everyone ugly and fugly, that the game have generated, just have to die the deletion death.

I should point out as well that I play with ageing and Neighbourhood Stories turned off because I am a total control freak and so as to avoid unwanted losses.

I also haven't lost any Sims that were family members moved to Other Households. I run a backup incase I do lose anybody.

@BylineBelife that made me laugh so much! 😂

I play on PC and I have thought about taking over the culling myself by otherwise turning culling off with a mod. I just wish that I didn't have to do that kind of micromanaging to keep family trees safe.
