For Rent: Doors don't go down with the walls.

Watching the livestream today, Dec 1 2023, I noticed the doors do not go down with the walls. This has been a known bug with apartment & penthouse lots including University dorm lots since July 2022. (Bug page here ->https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-CL-Apartements-Cutaway-view-shows-other-Apartement/td-p/11671632). Since the report page has been up for over a year it seems reasonable to me that we the community view this as a bug. This issue is also not on the pre-launch Laundry List as fixed or even being looked into. They'd have said if it were "By design, will not fix" before now. Right?

Well the new pack For Rent appears to have this issue. While showing off the rental lots the doors did not go down with the walls & when trying to visit a rental lot the cutaway walls were broken like the apartment lots of San Myshuno. They couldn't even show the mold feature off without going top down because the doors blocked the mold in the hallway. I have a real problem with this. I have not used Apartments & consider San Myshuno & University too broken to play because of this issue. Now it appears this may not be a bug but a by design choice. I just can't play like this. It literally makes me dizzy. I have Meniere's Disease & trying to force my eyes to adjust to constant changing perspective makes me literally nauseated, dizzy or flat out vomit.

So if this is a by design choice by the development team I need to make myself heard about this.

And if this is a design choice that cannot be corrected because a choice was made that this is how the code absolutely has to be & Maxis will not refund my money for City Living & University despite making a huge code change years after those packs released (I would have never bought either of these packs with this issue. Ever) I need to ask the community for help.

Are there any mods that can force the doors down with the walls? I do not use mods. I object to them on principle but with this new problem I think I need to consider a mod "fix" for the content I at least already own to actually work as intended.

As I understand it right now the way most people have self medicated the doors in San Myshuno issue is to use the TOOL mod to force doors to a 1pixel size making them invisible. That will not work here. These doors have to be clickable for the Rent features. But they also absolutely have to go down with the walls or I am going to puke. Does anyone know of a mod that will help me?

Thanks everyone. I took screenshots in case I am not being clear enough with how I have described this issue.

  • Someone can tell them exactly what the problem with the code is and give them the solution but it might take years for them to incorporate a fix if they every do. They also have access to every bug fix mod ever made. Only the most popular bugs get fixed and the bug is very popular so there is a chance on day the team will work on it.

  • Unfortunately, I believe transparency for them is just PR tomfoolery... They can't be bothered to say anything about it. Which is really annoying for some of us in the cutaway view thread. I'm not saying for them to say where gonna fix it, but at least acknowledge it as a problem there aware of. Maybe it was some unfortunately poor design choice that had to be for whatever reason. If it is they should tell people that or not...

  • @iheartsandwiches First of all, I'm sorry to hear you have a medical condition like that and that this game issue REALLY affects you (and is not just an annoyance factor). Life is hard enough without adding complications like that!

Secondly, the only reason I can see that doors being still up would be *by design* is if it made it easier to access said doors for locking/unlocking/assigning. However, that would mean it should be ALL doors, in every world/build type, and I don't think that is the case. (I don't think I notice the door issue as much as others do so I haven't noticed it, but that definitely doesn't mean it isn't an issue just because some aren't as bothered by it!)

Anyway, I hope you can get some resolution to this matter and you can be happily simming again soon! 🙂

@simsplayer818 I would love to do that. Thank you. I'm not sure where to post the issue though. The pack has not even released yet. So I wonder if I should wait until release & file a bug report or if I should Say something in General Discussion now.

@iheartsandwiches You could just post something in the Accessibility General Discussion now if you wanted to. Although the pack isn't out yet it's still worth mentioning. I'd let them know you've already posted here but that it's worth adding a separate Accessibility post. It might be something they can address in the usual first raft of fixes we get a few weeks after a pack release.
My friends mother has menieres, I know how it causes difficulties for her.
  • I've just noticed that when I build the lots as a resident the doors and walls work as usual. But as soon as I make it a rental, the doors go up and stay up. This is so annoying, especially since apartments by design are smaller spaces and the game is cluttering it up with doors.

Plus the wall issue not hiding the other apartments make some builds just awful. I find I can only make a certain type of apartment building without having to stare into the abyss of empty apartments. Or they look out and instead of seeing the building next door they see the empty looking apartment. Not the view intended.

I love For Rent so much. I've  been building apartments like crazy. And this door and wall thing is ruining the enjoyment. Especially since I know it wasn't always this way and I don't understand why they won't even acknowledge the issue.
