"For this first iteration of the feature we focused on pronouns. While pronouns are a very important piece when it comes to greater inclusivity for The Sims 4, we understand that customizable pronouns will not make the game 100-percent gender neutral. You will still see instances of gendered language in the game such as mother, father, policeman, policewoman, etc."
I'm a french simmer but as I speak english, I watch videos and content about the Sims 4 in english, and I got to say that I am really sad that we don't have any news about pronouns being added to non-english versions of the game...
At the beginning, I understood the argument that linguistic is a difficult subject and that the sims team has to do research in every single languages available in game etc, etc... But at the end of the day, why not give all the players around the world the "custom pronouns" window that english speaker simmers have ? If the sims team wants to find an equivalent to "they/them" in every languages I understand that it is taking a very long time. But if the english speaking players have the opportunity to type their pronouns themselves, why not give the rest of the player base the opportunity to type their own pronouns as well ? ☹️ (For example, in french "they/them" is very often translated to "iel", so why not give french simmers the custom pronouns window so they can type "iel" and "ellui" etc themselves ?)
Queer people around the world want to be represented as well !
Once again, I know that linguistic is a difficult topic (it happens to be my what I am studying in college haha !) and I am just suprised that the rest of the world doesn't have at least the "custom pronouns" window where people can type their pronouns themselves... 😕
I am also sad that we don't have any news and/or updates on that subject... ☹️
@Lalo_Reley Exactly what i think playing the game in brazillian portuguese where the neutral pronouns are usually elu(s)/delu(s) and ile(s)/dile(s), the "s" are for plural. I know they may struggle with the adjectives and nouns that have proper version for male and female gender which is usually just adding "a" or changing "o" for "a" to go fom masculine to feminine. They could just add the feminine versions with "x" instead of "a" in the last syllable.
@thornwill yeah ☹️ at the very very least I wish they would let us know what’s going on and at what stage they are in the translations… Because having dropped it for the english version and never ever giving any updates on the evolution of other translations gives the feeling that they forgot about us and that we do not matter as much as the english-speaking playerbase :/
