General Discussion on Holiday Traditions and ideas
I was reorganising my Sims calendar after having to start a new save file and realised how few traditions came with the pack on release. I have a lot of custom content traditions that I had downloaded and decided to try make my own sing karaoke solo tradition and sing karaoke duet tradition. I'm new to this but I realised when making them I realized the program used the whim files that the game previously used. I can now have an official karaoke night Holiday scheduled on my calendar.
If the team was able to add to the some of these old whims as traditions it'd be awesome. I also use a mod that unlocks the suprise holiday traditions and disables game generated suprise holidays. This is so useful as I have the lottery scheduled every Wednesday as people play in real life. Having the ability to use the traditions adds several options. With Mischief day disabled I have a scheduled 'Spring Fools Day' that is fixed in my calendar annually so I can plan around the events.
PC players can take having mods for granted. Having migrated over from Xbox One I know I have. It upsets me to see how few holiday traditions seasons came with and none have been added to to the system for any pack since it's release.
'Summerfest' and 'Beach Day' why are two of my favourite holidays for my Sims. I'd forgotten that 'build sand sculpture' and 'beachcomb' were CC traditions. There has been no integrated of icons added since seasons release. More examples I use:
Movie Hangout Stuff
'Watch and movie' and 'Eat popcorn' traditions for 'Summer Blockbuster' and 'Winter Blockbuster' holidays.
Bowling Night Stuff
'Go Bowling' and 'Drinks at the bar' traditions for Bowling Night Holiday.
Laundry Day stuff
'Do Laundry' tradition I set this holiday once per season.
Eco Lifestyle and Island Living
'beach clean-up' 'apply Eco Upgrades' and 'watch world culture network' traditions are used with gardening tradition for my 'Earth Day' holiday.
Paranormal stuff
'Summon Bonehilda' tradition used on Spring Clean Holiday.
International Gnome's Day
'Holiday Gnomes' 'Gardening' and 'arrange flowers' tradition.
This combination may day holiday gnomes fun and not an inconvenience like I found them to be on harvestfest. I don't have many exclusively florist Sims so this is good use of the the florist table that came with seasons pack itself.
I also use 'arange flowers' on my Springfest and Remembrance Sunday holidays. 'summon ghost' and 'hug a parent' traditions are also used on Remembrance Sunday. This then actually lead to a very heart warming gameplay moment one year as my sim reunited with her ghost mom.
I understand that this style of play might not be for everyone but by being able to have these little holidays it's rewarding as
1. I'm enjoying it and
2. I feel I'm getting my moneys worth from the stuff packs or game packs that I have bought.
I understand that not everyone would want to set a laundry day holiday lol but I love it haha it's what the stuff pack is called lol and makes me smile when it comes up. It gets me to actually play with some of the objects that I genuinely ignored before. Being honest I never used bowling night until I downloaded that CC tradition and scheduled a bowling night once per season. I now I would say bowling night is one of my favourite stuff pack. It's why I wanted to create my own sing karaoke tradition so I would actually use the karaoke machine and go to those lots. I never have not even when I lived in San myshuno.
I'm not certain but I think the rainbow icon I use to create my 'Pride' holiday might even be CC. There are so few icons with the seasons.
Also have an no school tradition is AMAZING as It means I can schedule a week of summer holidays in the summer and 2 days of winterfest holidays between boxing Day and New year's Eve. As spring and fall have smaller holidays ice at 1 Spring Bank holiday day.and 14 bank holiday per year. As those two seasons have shorter holidays being springfest and spooky day. One setup this gives my child and teens Sims semi realistic time off school without me having to think and enjoy playing.
Since I started playing on PC and started using the holiday system more robustly in my gameplay it has dramatically improved my gameplay experience. When having to rebuild my calendar from scratch I realised how underused such an amazing gameplay mechanic is. With more traditions added and integrating other packs I could see this helping many players game play experiences and this isn't even adding anything new to the game as it already exists within the game files from whims.
When I was playing on console it was hard when I could see what Mods could add to the experience but recently having to start a new game I realise the thing that makes the game for me persoy is the calendar, seasons and the traditions system. I wish being able to have a 21 day season was also an option as having 3 week seasons make a neat '12 month' year (12 SIM week calendar). But that would be cherry on the cake.
High School Years has unfortunately caused an issue with not being able to add holidays on days with high school events if you have teens in your household. This is the main reason I have disabled High School Years from my game. I hope this is fixed but as I haven't seen much on the topic I wanted to explain what this game mechanic means to me and how with very little effort on the part of the Sims team they could simply enrich many players experiences particularly those is on console who don't have access to any mods.
If you read all this it is appreciated as I have ADHD and have so I hope this has been readable and understandable to follow, I've tried. The Sims 4 means a lot to mean another so many amazing pre-existing game mechanics that just need fleshing out with integration if you own other packs.
Thanks for your time.
