Getting non played sims into relationships/marriage, can you?

I have a question and I'm somewhat new to this website so I'm not sure I posted this in the right place.  What are the ways you can influence non played sims and townies to get into relationships/marriages?  One problem I have is that I combined townies into one big family combining their money so there would be enough to move into a medium/big house.  But I can't edit their relationships in CAS and make them be husband and wife.  Is there any way to influence or force non played sims to get into relationship/marriage?  I'm talking about on Xbox/console, I don't have the option to use mods by the way.  Thanks

  • You are absolutely in the right place to ask your question. You've also asked about my favourite subject!

I'm on Xbox Series S. I find that the easiest way to do this, rather than pair a couple of NPCs/townies together is to just add a partner yourself to an NPC household. So take Bob Pancakes for example, he has a wife already but if he was solo I wouldn't take say Holly Alto and add her to his household then edit their relationship. Instead I'd create a spouse for him myself and then edit their relationship to make them married.

I also keep some townies as roommates and I regularly add my own Sims to a household like this, the BFF household for example. I start my Sim out there as a friend so that they begin the game with friend relationships. I also created a sister for Summer Holiday. Sometimes I leave my Sims there for a while and then go back later to split them out to play. While the house is still in Other Households and unplayed, you can edit and renovate the house to your taste and requirements at no cost to your Sim, then add your Sim into the redesigned swanky pad with instant buddies. You'll still need to build their friendship up as it starts out as acquaintance unless you've made them a relative. Sometimes I move some roomies out and sometimes I later move my Sim out. It's just a starting point if my Sim is a solo but social Sim and it stops those sadness moodlets from a new lonely Sim who has yet to make friends. It means they immediately always have someone to call to chat.

Another thing I sometimes do is create a young adult child of an NPC household. So for Aliki and Mele in Sulani for example, I added 2 daughters. Gigi is their daughter and Pia is just Aliki's. I added a Husband and Son for Gigi then moved them to their own lot as her husband Keanu is an island guardian. I added a sister for Keanu and moved her to her own lot as a fellow island guardian. I moved Pia to her own lot and then later added her Husband and daughter. I made a complicated family feud situation as nobody gets on with Aliki...and he never stops calling but nobody picks up!

I've only had problems with this occasionally and randomly where it wouldn't allow me to edit pre made Sims, usually it works fine for me and with these households I've never had a problem.

Another thing I do is to keep a group of townies and NPC Sims in regular circulation as friends/love interests for my Sims. I edit everything about them to make them love interest/friend material. I often take their houses for my own Sims but I leave them as Currently not in World and in Other Households. I regularly cull random townies as I find the game adds too many and it can slow the game down, Cottage Living caused a real problem with this. I keep Other Households between 70 to 100 Sims.

Relationship yes, marriage no. The nearest is the Story Progress telephone-call with ring in the bag (engagement-call). Maybe someday they will add marriage to Neighbourhood Stories/Phone-NS-Call but for now you need to play these sims if you want to marriage them without cheat (cas.fulleditmode)

For relationship should be under friendly -> Ask/Talk about Another Sim… -> There is one for you want that these sims get friends/date with... (Because of EA-App I can’t switch language anymore, so I don’t know how exactly the sentences are in English). The chance should be 50% that they after this are a couple. (They need to know each other for it!) <- I am not sure if you still need Get Together for this or if they add it in the base game.

I agree with simsplayer, the easiest way is just to add a new created NPC. If you marriage them in CAS with cheats (cas.fulleditmode) they will not have any romantic relationship which is a little odd, if you ask me!

Neighborhood stories miss a lot of features for a true story progress, especially if you play with aging on for unplayed NPC. Because of this many pc player still use MCCC, this mod has these missing features (Townies can have romantic relationships, marriage, cheating which create more babies, divorce)

  • Talking of neighbourhood stories I've had to turn that off as it was causing too many bugs. But yes the marriage and have baby effects still take place in households with established couples or with dating couples. One of the bugs I still get is that answering No doesn't always work and even if I'm playing a Sim they sometimes get engaged after a call from their partner even if I dismiss the call. Saying no to babies resulted in a household full of babies and some elders getting pregnant too. I think it was meant to help with things like this but for me it's too buggy and intrusive. I've reported the bugs along with other players so hopefully it will improve over time.

  • @simsplayer818 Thanks for the info, I might try a few things you mentioned, I did figure out something, if you download a sim from the gallery, add them to your gallery, you can add them to a household easily and their relationship status is editable. I just recently added a sim from gallery to a household that had a man and two children but no girlfriend/wife, I made them husband and wife. As I play the game during certain screen hints and stuff pop up near the bottom and says you can click on a sim and try to influence them to date so and so, I looked into this during gameplay, have your sim, click on another sim and you have an option, to try and get them hooked up with so and so, you get to select who, when i did that they were not interested in them so there relationship bar may not be high enough or some other mechanic is coming into play. I haven't tried this option but once, I like it.

Yeah, that's not part of Neighborhood Stories story progression. There's a prominent mod (MCCC) that does story progression that includes marriage, but, as you say, you're on console.

That said, if you really, really want Nina Caliente to marry Don Lothario or whatever, you can use the CAS.fulleditmode cheat to edit their relationship. That said, be aware that if you're on console using cheats disables your trophies. ☹️

  • @Thehiddenreturns his, I'm not sure if this works on all devices but putting in a cheat can help you edit relationships

so you'll type 'testingcheats true' and then type 'cas.fulleditmode'
    obviously without the quotations 🙂
