Having a few problems here...

Problem #1: My sims can't clean up. If I direct them to throw away trash, they pick it up and drop it on the floor. I have tried pulling trash piles by outdoor trash cans, and I have deleted current trashcans before buying new ones. 

Problem #2: I'm having a similar problem with dishes. I direct my sims to "clean up," they will pick up the plate, and then set it back down with no thought bubble indicating a problem. There are plenty of sinks and multiple dishwashers. If I use build to put dirty dishes next to the sink and direct one of my sims to clean up, he'll pick up the dish... and take it to the table. 

I've restarted both the game and my computer. I have no mods installed atm. Any ideas?

    I too have experienced this bug. My sims are also not doing actions I place for them. Such as using the computer etc.

    For #2 - that sounds like there's a plate somewhere they can't reach or that's glitched. I'd look around the lot for plates on high shelves, half walls, or sort of glitched in the air. I know my toddlers often leave glitched plates on or by the couch. If you get rid of the plate(s) they can't collect, they should be able to successfully collect and wash the rest of the plates on the lot.

    This usually happens if you have dirty plates somewhere on stuck on a shelf. Scan your entire house for empty plates and remove them manually.
