I'm in build mode and it's so close to the house, I just want to know how to zoom out... very confused

If you have a mouse with a scroll button, scrolling it down should be zooming out

Simply use your scroll wheel to zoom out, if you are on a laptop, I believe you can put 3 fingers on the touchpad and move them up/down to scroll. (Only works on some laptops, most modern ones should work)
Also, please remember, if you are a player coming from The Sims 3, you can press Ctrl + Shift + Tab to change the camera to function the same as it did in The Sims 3, I personally find this a nice feature and very handy.
