How to make Erwin Pries the Curio Shop Owner again?

I have an old save game, and Erwin Pries has dissapeared from the save. I've tried MCC to unhide households, to see if he's "just shy", but he is completely gone. I guess he was culled at some point, as the save has aging off so he couldn't have died. I can place him down again from the gallery, but he loses his job as the curio shop owner. This annoys me, because I want *him* specifially to be the owner. So, I've tried some cheats. First I removed the current curio shop owner, then I placed Erwin down at a lot and gave him these traits:

traits.equip_trait trait_Hidden_Strangetown_CurioShop

traits.equip_trait trait_Hidden_Strangetown_NPC_PremadeSim /or/ traits.equip_trait trait_Hidden_Strangetown_NPC_ErwinPries

traits.equip_trait trait_Hidden_Strangetown_Conspiracist

I then move him out, and mark the household as unplayed. The conspiracist cheat works without a hitch, but Erwin is never spawned as the curio shop owner, even though I could see him getting a notification for the job. Also, when asking him about his career, it's says he's the curio shop owner.

I've had no luck searching for a mod for assigning this role, seems I'm using the wrong keywords. Perhaps there's something wrong with the cheats I've used? All help is appreciated, as this has become my new obsession to solve and I can't seem to let it go before I find a solution, haha.

  • I found a solution! At least it seems like it's working? It's a bit convoluted, but hear me out...

After reading through Sims 4 forums, I found someone wanting to clone a sim's looks over to another sim and I got an idea... Maybe it's not about making Erwin Pries into the Curio Shop Owner, but rather, making the Curio Shop Owner into Erwin Pries..?

Mods: MC Command Center, and Fogity Unlock CAS parts.

Cheats: testingcheats on , sims.get_sim_id_by_name (First Name) (Last Name) , sims.modify_career_outfit_in_cas [id] (replace id with the Sim-ID).

First I downloaded the original Erwin Pries to my library. You will also need to have testingcheats on.Using the MCC-mod, I clicked the current random NPC assigned as the Curio Shop Owner, named Toby, and opened MCC. You go MCC > MC CAS > Copy/Paste > Paste Tray Sim > Any Saved Sim. This opens up a list of all saved households. I clicked on the Pries household and chose Erwin. A menu opens up, and you choose what you want to copy. I chose everything except for personality (in a previos try I copied everything, which made a new Curio Shop owner spawn the next day). And lo and behold, Toby turned into a sorta Erwin looking sim, except for eyebrows, hair color, beard, and hairstyle, skin details and teeth. By using the shift-cheat Modify in CAS, I opened up the household and Toby looked more like "Erwin", but the unlockable colander hat and vest was missing. Ah, the household didn't have the items unlocked. For the time I added the right eyebrows skin details, teeth and remove the stubble, and confirmed my changes. When I confirmed the changes and went out of CAS, I also noticed that the work outfit hadn't changed, along with Toby still having short outdoor retreat hair. I figured it was marked as a career outfit, but I knew how to change this with a cheat. But first...

To fix the missing conspiracy clothing, I exited the game and downloaded the Fogity Unlock CAS parts mod, as this would unlock the right clothes for the new "Erwin" in CAS. Reentering the game, and once again using the shift-cheat Modify in CAS on Toby, I was able to give him back his colander hat and fancy vest. One of the best parts of the Fogity mod is that the clothing items remain even after you've removed the mod.

Now to change the work outfit. I used the cheat sims.get_sim_id_by_name Toby Ruthledge to get "Erwin's" Sim-ID, as I would need to add this to the cheat to change his work outfit. To change the work outfit, type in sims.modify_career_outfit_in_cas [id]. I had to type the cheat several times as I kept typing the sim id wrong (it's 18 digits long and you're seemingly unable to copy it...), but at last I got it working, and Work Outfit CAS opened up. I changed the color of the vest and colander hat, and was able to change his hair to the correct one, and I also changed the color of their converse to black. I also added his glasses and wristwatch, and changed his pants to black distressed jeans, but these didn't "stick" to the work outfit when he came back to work.

I stayed with a sim at the Slip 42 lot and watched Toby, or "Erwin", repawn three days in a row, and also had a successfull try when visiting the neghborhood with a sim from outside of StrangerVille. As a celebration, I changed Toby's name officially to Erwin Pries (changing the name doesn't seem to have broken his role). Using MCC I also added the right skills, MCC > MC Cheats > Cheat Sim Info > Skill Cheats... > Set Skills to Level.

I'm so happy to finally have this figured out, as complicated as it might be. Though I doubt there are that many people, except for me, this obsessed with getting the game *exactly* as you want, haha.

  • What if you remove the current owner and erwin and then visit the shop with a third unrelated sim? It "should" bring erwin back as the owner.

Here's something you might try.  I've never tried and don't know if it will work but I know that if a sim like Erwin or any of the new CotL sims like the Mayor, Creature Master, Pub Owner and Grocery Stall owner are ever made playable even for just a minute, they lose their jobs and the game creates a new sim for that role.  So the key is to not make him playable at any time to have a chance of getting him back in the game.  So that said, you can try this:

Find Erwin in Manage Households in a new save and save him to your library.  To get him into a house, don't place him in a home alone or else he becomes playable and that ends any chance of him remaining in his job.  So move at least one other NPC that you don't care about and move that sim into a house.  That sim will become playable at that point since the game will probably load you into the lot.  Exit back to Manage Worlds and open Manage Households.  Find that sim and move him from My Households to Other Households so the sim becomes an unplayed NPC again by hitting the little heart button in the lower right corner of the household portrait. Then move Erwin in with him from your library.  Evict them from the house.  Back to Manage Households and split the household so Erwin is alone in his own household.  You might have to hunt down the current stall vendor and delete him/her first so there is no other sim with the trait that makes them the stall vendor.

The thing I don't know about this is if a sim like Erwin is saved to your library is if he loses his special traits that make him the stall vender.  So honestly, it might not work.  Only way to find out is to try though.

    Hope this helps.

@Zasz_Zerg I think I tried what you suggested, and it doesn't seem to work, but it might have something to do with Erwin's "role" being incorrect.. I'll keep experimenting!

@CGrant56 Hmm... yes, this is a bit different from what I've tried.

With other NPC, such as assigning NPC-careers, it has worked with placing the household, going into playmode, assigning the career thrugh cheats, evicting them and lastly marking as unplayed. It's when I play them after I "activate" them again that they lose their role. I've even had it working without marking as unplayed! But Erwins role is different, and seems to lose his special traits if saved in the library, as you say.

I'll give this workaround a shot if the current thing I'm doing doesn't work 🙂

    Note to myself:
Never delete such sims. Its appearently a total pain to bring them back :D

Also I downloaded the sim from the gallery and can play him AND have him as the shop owner 🙂
