How to paint like Michael Angelo ?XD No CC/Mods

Guys guys help xD

Hi its me again with another query xD You did great helping me with lava xD This time I need some tips regarding paintings ;p

I am making a huge family tapestry and I need loads of portraits of them but, I cant for the life of me figure out a way to get a good lighting, I tried about anything I can come up with and these are the results;

The first one isnt too bad, but I have no idea how I made it ;p but all the rest of them is too bright and you can hardly see any details on the face, and in addition to that I will have downsize all of the paintings so they fit on a wall in a single room.

Is there anyone who have any experience doing this ?
