Is there any way of increasing the game camera's FOV in TS4?

I've posted about this on Reddit and the Mod The Sims help forum but unfortunately I've had no answers yet.

What I'm calling the "game camera" is I guess what you'd call it the live/build/buy camera. So you can enter the free camera you by hitting the tab key, right? In the free camera you can alter the field of view (FOV) by zooming in and out with your mouse wheel. What I'm trying to work out is, how do I change it so that the default FOV in the game is bigger in the game's "normal" gameplay camera.

For instance in The Sims 2, the FOV can be increased using the files in the 'Cameras' folder. I use an edited version of this camera edit compilation which increases it to a satsifying level. In The Sims 3, it can be done from the XML called 'Camera' which is in the GameplayData file, by editing the default value of <kMainFOVDegrees value="45" /> to be a higher value. I've not yet been able to find any guide or mention of how to do this in The Sims 4.

I'm used to having an increased FOV in the other games and I can't get over how cluttered and "zoomed in" the camera is in TS4 by comparison, it makes me feel kind of sick. Playing in with the walls up is really difficult, and tiny apartments make it even worse.

Any tips for where I should be looking?

  • @LeMurphs  I don't know what value(s) you'd want to edit or where to find them—I haven't really looked—but I'd just switch to the Sims 3 camera in Sims 4 and scroll out a bit.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I'm already using the Sims 3 camera which is preferable but still doesn't make the FOV problem any better.

I've been looking into this for a long time and I'm starting to think this hasn't got a simple fix. Somebody posted about this exact issue in 2015 and didn't seem to get any further.

It's disappointing if that's the case, I want to play but it's surprisingly off-putting that the FOV is so small. It's almost nausua unducing. I guess it's fine if you're playing on a console but my monitor is like an arm's length from my eyes so the FOV is

At least in TS2 and TS3 I could tweak the config files to adjust the FOV. I'd have hoped that FOV could have been adjusted in the game's options menu, but maybe some day.
