[Island Living] Do Waterproof Mermaids Hydrate in Rain?

Does anyone know how the Waterproof Reward Trait affects Mermaids? The Trait description says "Waterproof Sims do not get wet in the rain." If a Mermaid has this trait, will it stop them from filling their Hydration Need by standing/showering in the rain? Is it even useful for a Mermaid at all? The original intent of the Trait was to stop negative Moodlets for most Sims from getting soaked in a downpour, but since it hydrates them, I'd think Mermaids wouldn't get negative Moodlets from getting drenched, but I can't really be sure of any of this.

  • @iamsweetmystery    Hi!  That's a good question.  The Waterproof trait does not seem to have any affect on mermaids.  I wasn't entirely sure about that, so I tested it.  I have two mermaid sims.  One has the Waterproof trait and the other does not.  I had both of them stand outside in heavy rain for a couple of hours.  The hydration need replenished for both of them.  The one without the trait did not get any negative moodlet and didn't even have the normal dripping that sims get after being out in the rain.

Okay, sounds good. From what you're saying, it looks like it has no impact either way. If they had the trait before becoming a Mermaid, it won't stop their abilities, but if they don't have it, there's no need to waste my points buying it. Much appreciated. Thank you.

@iamsweetmystery   You're welcome!  As you suggested, it seems logical that mermaids would not react negatively to being wet.  Although, logic isn't always a factor in this game.  lol  So your question really was a good one.  Yes, save those points for some other reward trait.  The Stormchaser trait is a good one.  I hate that every sim runs around scared by thunderstorms.  Happy Simming!

Honestly gets me curious about other things as well, like what effect the Waterfall in a Bottle from jungle Adventures would have on a Mermaid. Since Hydration replaces the Hygiene Need, and it's effectively a huge bottle of water they pour over themselves to get clean or put out fires, it SHOULD hydrate a Mermaid (if the devs had the forethought to tie the two together.)

@iamsweetmystery   Another good question.  I just tested and can confirm that Waterfall in a Bottle does replenish the Hydration need. :-)

Nice. Thanks. I was going to send my current household there to check after they finished high school. Still going to go for the vacation, but now I know to stock up extra on Waterfall while I'm there. It'll be useful to have a few in their inventory in general for when they're out and about away from water. Fun little hack there.
