Issue With New Flared Stairs

As you can see from the image, I am having difficulty placing the new flared stairs in my manor house - which would look absolutely amazing if only they would work.

The stairs I had there previously were identical but without the flare, and fit perfectly, even with objects at the top of the stairs. Trying to add any amount of flaring results in the "can't intersect with walls" error as above.

I have tried removing all the walls around the stairs (the only ones being those in front which they abut against), but this does not work. I can place them in the middle of the garden, where they do not touch anything, perfectly well, though those leading from the terrace at front and rear also cannot be altered without a "cannot intersect with fence" error.

Removing walls/fences and then trying to place stairs afterwards does not work as they seem to ignore the moveobjects cheat and still will not place.

Anyone else have this problem, or a possible solution?

Also, removing one side of my stair rail causes the railing to no longer meet up on corners, which means I have to continue to put up with railings clipping through the walls.

  • Used a half wall as a workaround for the wall directly beneath the stairs (for some reason 3.75 is almost as tall as the whole wall, works for me).

This allows me to flare the stairs, FINALLY. Makes zero sense, but in case anyone else has this problem...

  • Loving the stairs now I know how to use them; look at my new Library staircase! 😁

    I don't think so.

Edit: Unless there could be something to do with the room below?

Floors beneath really shouldn't be an issue, though.

Edit: Unbelievable. It IS the wall below causing the issue?!! That has GOT to be a bug. Taking out 5 tiles worth of the wall directly beneath the stairs means they can be flared, wth. Needs FIXING 🤦‍♀️

  • Thanks for playtesting that, I was considering doing the same thing myself! I started thinking maybe the dog-legged landing was the problem, but clearly not.

Yes, There is a small bathroom under/behind the stairs, so there are walls between the inner pillars and the top of the stairs making that square(ish). There are no walls other than that, though - just pillars.

I have tried taking all walls and bannisters out, to no avail. The stairs will place 1 tile farther back but that is too close to my front door and looks strange at the top.

Edit: Yes, the build is on the Gallery I think, Silverstone Hall.

Edit 2: Just noticed your balcony is x3 deep, mine is only x2 tiles. That should still be enough though! The stairs work fine until I try to curve them at the bottom. 🤔

  • Hi

Do you have anything behind the set of stairs you are trying to place? I've tried to emulate what is going on here but I can place the stairs 😕  Is your build up on the gallery for download?

  • Since I can't seem to edit my post:

Further experimentation has proved that the stairs will place on the wrong side of my landing/balcony, ie: the pink ballroom. And will also extend right from the front door into the roof (there is no floor up there!), as you can see. They just won't go where I need them to!

On the positive side, a LOT of messing around produced the below effect in the garden:
