July 23rd update wrecked my game
Since this thread is getting a lot of traction, I'll list out the common known issues and pin the post as a solution. This is not to say that these issues are solved, just that increased visibility may be helpful for others reading the thread.
This is under investigation. EA_Cade has posted (in the accepted solution, pinned for visibility) that the team is testing a fix now. So keep an eye on that thread for updates, including a possible emergency patch.

sleepyeerie Set exceptions in your antivirus for TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64; or the entire Bin folder they're in. You may need to repair the game to resetore these .exe files as well.
