Migrate Sims 4 from EA Play to Game Pass

I'm sure this has been asked somewhere, but man trying to find things on these forums... Anyways - here goes.

I've got Sims 4 through EA Play (originally Origin Access) on PC.

I've purchased DLC.

I also have an Xbox Game Pass subscription, again on PC.

Now that EA Play is included in Xbox Game Pass, naturally I don't want to keep paying double.

So.

If I link my EA Play account to my Xbox Game Pass account, can I then simply cancel my EA Play membership and still keep the DLC purchased for Sims 4?

Are there any hoops I need to jump through? Such as re-install Sims 4 and all the DLC once I've linked the EA Play/Game Pass accounts?

  • @matsmonsen  If you've bought DLC separately, your account will own that regardless of how (or even whether) you have access to the base game.  In theory, this process should work fine.  In practice, it can be a headache, with people needing to contact EA support to get the EA Play version of the game removed from their accounts first.  In fairness, this happens to people who buy the game outright too, although apparently not all the time.

I don't think you'd need to reinstall, but it's possible.  No one so far has described the exact process to switching over.  If you do need to uninstall first, make sure to back up the Sims 4 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts: this contains your saves and other user data.

By the way, have you considered buying the base game separately?  It's on sale for $5 U.S. until tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.  That way you could play even without a subscription.

Oh, thanks for the heads up! I did actually consider buying it but hesitated since I renewed my membership for a year just a month ago. The sale made it easier though - not as cheap here in Sweden but still a hefty discount. Since it's mostly my kid who plays it I figure I better not mess it up, or I'd never hear the end of it  >.<

Also, that YouTube link was pretty informative as well!
