@kameo123, yes there are some differences in how houses are set up in different countries. I enjoy watching a show called House Hunters International, where people look for a new home all over the world. I've noticed in some countries it is common to put the laundry machines in the bathroom, while other countries put them in the kitchen. In the U.S. we usually put them in a small room by themselves, or in older houses with basements we will put them down there. Some countries do not have ovens at all in the average kitchen.
I do know some people who put their trash under the sink in the U.S. but it seems to be more up to the individual family.😉
And I can see the desire to make your Sims' houses match what you have in your country. That is only natural! 🙂 Some people were puzzled as to why the dorms in Discover University didn't have kitchens in them , only a mini fridge and microwave. In the U.S. that is common in order to avoid fires. Some dorms in the U.S. do have a cafeteria in the common area, but others don't have that at all and the main areas to eat are the Student Commons, just like in Discover University.
I agree with you about the bars in the game! There are way too many, which is silly since many people don't have a bar in their home at all. 🤨 (But I do like the one that came with Discover University 😳😃 )
Yes, the small modern fireplaces were present in the Sims 2 and the Sims 3! 🙂 The were kind of round and tapered at the top. I miss those as well! I don't know why they are absent in The Sims 4. 🤔 Hopefully we will get it back for TS4 eventually! 🤞
The house I grew up in had the stove on set in the countertop above some cabinets and the oven on the wall with cabinets above and below it. When I remade that house for TS4, I just had to put the stove-oven combination where my mom's stove would be, and instead of an oven in the wall, I just put floor cabinets that wen from floor to ceiling. It works, but I would rather have had the two separated, just like you mentioned! 🙌
@PugLove888Oh I love watching documentaries like that! Seeing different styles and cultures represented in houses is dacinating and inspirational.
Becasue I enjoy trying to make "cultural" houses that match someones backroun, I loved the build and buy stuff from jungle adventure: It opened up so many different things that matched some of the more south American styled objects and flooring we had. The only annoying thing is the swathces. Why don't some of the woood swatches match"!?!?!?
That is one major problem I find with new packs. There should be a set of wood tones that all build and buy objects should have. They do remebr to put in a completly white and black in the newer packs, but sometimes I want a more natural wood tone and I am stuck with just a few that match. Therefor all my builds have white windos mostly 😃
We have our washer and dryer in the basement, but in our old house we had it in a seperate room. I forget to make a seperate room for it in sims so it just ends up in one of the bathrooms 😃
I loved the bar from DU it was so perfect and with the thingy on top made it more unique.
I struggle a lot with trying to make my house becuase we have split leveling with out dinigroom and livingroom. It just looks wonkey and can't put the dors to the patio outside because of the walls and stuff.
I've actually downloaded two new kitchen sets (cc) today that work really well with modern and traditional houses. I find myself going on cc shopping sprees quite often lately. I've downloaded in total 17 kitchen sets 👿 And I've mostly downloaded all of peacemakers objects sets cc as well.
If the sims made more content that was comepletly new, like L-shaped sofas or bunkbeds I think a lot of cc creators could make different styles ofr that so that everyone could have more options. Thats mostly what I wish for the sims to do.
Do you use any cc? I personally only stick with maxis match

@kameo123, Yes I also love learning about different cultures! I love the Jungle Adventure Pack, Island Living Pack , and the City Living Pack for those reasons! ❤️ And I agree about the lack of matching swatches! There should be a standard range of wood tones with several shades of brown and also a black, white, and gray wood swatch!
Most of my builds have white windows too! But I usually just download from the Gallery as I am not the greatest at making houses, and am much better at making Sims! 😃Most houses in the U.S. that don't have basements have traditionally had the laundry located in a small room connecting the kitchen to the garage. (And really old houses without basements have the laundry in the actual garage) But the trend in newer houses is if your house is a 2 story house, the laundry is now upstairs where most of the bedrooms and bathrooms are. This makes it easy to wash all the bedding , clothes, and bathroom towels! 💡🙌
I don't play with laundry in the game too much and when I do, I like the wash tub and clothes line! 😉Ooh, split levels are so hard to do in TS4! 😞 I hope you can find a way to make your house! I had a childhood friend with a fantastic split level home (it had 4 levels that were separated by half-staircases and one side of the house was built into a hill. But I can't make it in the game, and that really makes me sad! ☹️
No, I don't use CC in TS4, but I used to in TS2 and TS3. I used a lot of CC in TS2! 😃 But when playing TS3, I had a lot of problems with Mods and CC so I took it all out and have never played with it after that! 😢 I also don't really want to go through the upkeep of using CC and Mods, and then sorting through all of them when an outdated item messes up my game. 😞 But when I did use CC I had a lot of items since it was so hard to not keep adding items! And while I won't use it in TS4, if I were going to, I would probably use Maxis Match items since they look the best with the items that come with the game! 🙂
I saw someone on YouTube make an L-shaped sofa with some of the furniture we got with Discover University. You just have to use the bb.moveobjects on cheat and hold down the Alt key to position it just right.
And yes, I really want bunk beds!!!! 🙌 I think almost everyone does! 😇- 6 years ago
Oh tahts so cool with the laundery. I should really start to plan my builds more. I really don't plan them enough when it comes to rooms and such if I don't have sims already made for that lot.
The woodswatch problem is a serious issue. I feel like they should have done it from the sart so that the task isn't too big to fix now.
I tried making my house several times but we live in a slope so it's super difficult making it look good. And the sizing with rooms, stairs and doors is impossible to match.
HOW DO YOU PLAY WITHOUT CC!!!!!!!!!! I honestly can't play without it! I have the four collums in cas and I have also downloaded so marny witch hats, hairs, clothes and everything. I feel like with cc is that once you start you becoma a addict and hoarder. I have around 3k cc items I think or more. It's riddiculous. But it improves my game so much that I think I'd struggle if I went back to being cc free.
The upkeep hasn't been problematic, EXCEPT for whrn the dicover univeristy patch came up and it ruined my whole game. That was stressfull and horrible. It was the only time it had happened tho. Otherwise it has been really nice.
I love playing with simcity loans since I can make my sim take a morgage and then build a beautiful house, and pay it down like irl. Makes for more realisic gameplay and motivates me to actually make a family and not use cheats.
Ohh yeah the new sofas from Discover Univesity is perfect for making L-shaped sofas. I downloaded a sofa set that had L-shaped sofa in it and it works so well! Uses the loungechair animation from the island living update.
I think bunkbeds would have been amazing for city living and university. Could make a really cheep dorm with bunkbeds and such or have cute sibling rooms with bunkbeds.
Honestly I'm waiting for the sims 5, Really wanna see what they could make withthe current tecnology and improve the game series with the feedback and experience from sims 4.
I rearly play in livemode because it gets boring really quick. My sims stay at home and go to work and thats it. I miss the open world or some sort of freedom that would make it easier to just travel without having to go through a loadscreen. Also I miss the usage of cars and bikes to travel from work back home and everything. It runs a lot better with sims 4 and the restrictions, but hopefully they might include more openworld in sims 5 or open neighbourhoods at least. AND MORE LOTS! I miss habing many lots and being able to place down more lots. I fill up newcrest so fast it's crazy!

@kameo123, yes, I agree that they should have provided the right wood swatches from the beginning … and I agree that now it is almost too late because it would take a lot of extra work to fix it! If it was done early it would have been easier.🤨
Sorry to hear about the difficulties you have in making your split-level house.😞 I think split levels are so interesting ❤️🙌, and it is a shame we can't really do them in the game. ☹️ I've seen a few that kind of get around the restrictions and work somewhat, but not really in the way most split-levels are designed.
It is easy to play without CC since I've never used it in TS4! 😃 In all honesty, it was much harder to get rid of it in TS3 since I had grown attached to many of the items! I remember a doll I downloaded that caused all kinds of problems! ☹️ Then I think I also had an outdate Mod that was problematic. I had to get rid of a lot of items and just found it better to get rid of everything so I wouldn't have to worry about more problems. I would have had to get rid of my CC anyway in TS3 because the game was so unstable even without CC that not even half way through its reign, it was almost unplayable! 😢
And I know what you mean by hording CC items because I did that in TS2. 😃 Another reason not for me to do it in TS4 because like you, it just wouldn't be a few items of CC , but thousands! 😮😳
You can also make L-shaped sofas with the couch that was included in My First Pets Stuff, but I didn't mention that because a lot of people don't have that pack Also, that sofa has a lot of pet-themed swatches, and those won't work for every home. 😉
City Living would have been perfect for bunk beds!!!🙌 University would have worked but I haven't seen too many dorms with them, at least where I live.
I'm not much of a builder. I was better at it in the original Sims and didn't do too bad in TS2. But TS3 I was horrible at it, and with TS4 I find it easier to build than TS3, but I'm still not that good. 🤭😃 I mostly love making families and I play a lot in Live Mode!!!
I never get bored in Live Mode. But i have different playing styles based on my mood (ironically! ) for each time I play. I usually love playing large familes (and there is never a dull moment with them!) . I also tell stories. This was best done with TS2, but I still do it with TS4!I also really love to experiment in the game! I will test certain things out for people here to see if I can reproduced it in my game and then help them figure out if they are experiencing a bug that needs to be reported, or if they just went about something in the wrong way, or if there is something else wrong with their game. This is another reason why it is best if I don't use Mods and even CC , as there is no way I can get all the CC that each person has, so it is best to test with a vanilla game. And even though it isn't as common, CC can create problems with gameplay.
But I also experiment for my own enjoyment. I spent a large part of the Summer/Fall of 2018 experimenting with Vampire/Alien hybrids. They were glitchy because they weren't supposed to be in the game, but it was fun to see how the combination played out! 🥳 But with the last patch it was supposed to put a stop to that, so it will be interesting when I go back to my family that is like this and see what happened after the patch.🤓
I also will sometimes play in a goal-oriented manner. But I almost never play rotationally, so I don't run out of room for all the wonderful houses that I download from the Gallery, and I just make a new Save Game for each family I play. (Once in a while I will play rotationally, but I don't like it since I like to be in control of my Sims! ). So, while I don't need more lots because of how I like to play, I do want more lots for all those people who play rotationally! 🤞 Since that is how most people play, it is really, really needed in the game! 🤨
Finally there are alwyas Challenges to do if you get bored. I was did the Wonder Child Challenge and was going to use that Sim to do an Apocalypse Challenge, but I think I might do a Doctor Who Challenge instead! ❤️❤️And I'm still finding out things everyday that are hidden in the game, so no, I never get bored! 🥳
That said, I did get bored in TS3. I hated the open world because they were almost always empty! 😠 All the Sims would be in their homes when my Sim wanted to socialize outside of their household. The worlds in TS3 were like giant ghosttowns. Go to a park or bar and nobody would be there. Wait for hours and still nobody will show up. Then as you have to leave, someone finally shows up but your Sim is too exhausted to socialize! 😞 At least with TS4 the loading screens are only about 30 seconds long (no big deal at all!) and there are always people at the venue when my Sims arrive! ❤️ If there isn't right away, they always arrive very shortly after! 🙌
And then there is the biggest problem with TS3 and the open worlds... they caused most people's games to go incredibly slow and many people's games would grind to a complete halt!!!!!! 😬😢 The game was pretty much unplayable. 😞 When my game didn't grind to a halt, I would often wait 20 minutes for it to start working again.... much, much longer than a little 30 second loading screen!!!! 🤨 So I don't miss the open worlds at all! They took exponentially longer to do anything with (when the game actually worked) and then when your arrived at your destination the world was empty! So a huge wait for absolutely not payoff! I was angry all the time playing TS3. Good thing I loved to read, because even though I'm an avid reader, I never read so much as when I was waiting for TS3 to do something! 😃 TS4 , on the other hand loads like a dream and doesn't give me these types of problems. 🙌TS3 had great ideas on paper, but in reality they didn't work. If we ever get an open world (like with TS5 or TS6) the only way I would be happy about them is if they actually work, don't slow down or stop my game, and aren't' empty! 🤔 But I don't know if that is possible .
I am curious with what they might do with TS5 (if there is going to be a TS5). It will be exciting to see. 🙌 My favorite version of the Sims is TS2!!! That was the most fascinating, addictive game I've ever played! 🥳 I couldn't stop playing it!🙌❤️ The gameplay was very deep and quirky, and as a storyteller, it was by far the best.❤️ But I do think that TS4 needs more Personality Traits, and for that I wish they would use TS3's Personlaity Trait system! ❤️ It made for more unique characters! More traits and more trait slots is a wonderful thing! 🙌 And while I do like the moods and moodlets of TS4, I wish the traits didn't just make certain moodlets more likely... I want traits to drive autonomous behavior. Even though I like to keep control over my Sims, I always prefer when they act on their personalities , which they were more likely to do in both TS2 & TS3! 😇
