Mini Goats keep being placed back into inventory when leaving small business

Hi, i started a bakery business with goats, they have their own barn, water etc. However, everytime i leave the business lot, all the mini goats are placed back into my inventory. Then of course, theyre not too happy in there for long..so i have to go back often to place them back into their barn. Its quite annoying and i cant find any answers when i try to look it up.

Does anyone know whats going on?

PipMenace That plan sounds like it would work nicely. I had a similar personal experience... Before the new pack came out I made a lot with a home and a small business area in the front yard. I moved a sim into the household that already owned a business that I don't think I had ever run yet on her old lot. So, when I moved her into the new household her registered small business came with her. I set it up (assigned employees, etc.) and ran it for at least a couple of rl weeks on that lot. It was well established by the time the new pack came out (rating was all the way to the last star before the rating is full). Also, that household had chickens, goats and mini-sheep...

Then when the new pack came out I moved a copy of that lot I had been playing into my library and placed it on a larger lot in the new world (the business area in the front yard was very squeezed in the way I had been playing it). I built up the yard some so the space would be more comfortable to run the business and have animals. Then separated the sim with the registered business and part of the previous household into their own household in Manage Households.

Some of the next part surprised me... Interestingly, when I had that new household purchase and move into the new home in the new world (same game save, they were in Henford on Bagley before), I got a message right away when entering live mode - something to the effect that her business had become disconnected from the home, plus that the following things had been returned to her inventory (the list of things returned to her inventory included all of her mini-sheep, and I think also her goats). Note: I'm pretty sure she was the one who purchased the livestock on the previous lot, though I'm not sure if another sim purchased the chickens. So, I had her place the sheep from her inventory right away, and they did just fine on the new lot. Then I opened the panel on the small business. All of her employees were gone in the panel, and I had to choose the new lot as the lot assigned to her business. All of the business goals/tasks for customers, and the business rating remained the same, though. I had to hire new employees and assign them tasks, but otherewise everything remained the same with her small business.

Sorry for tons of detail, but since I just went through what sounds like the same scenario as you, WeiliZy, I thought perhaps some part(s) of that may be of use to you - and to see that PipMenace's suggestions would work nicely.

Try saving the business' building(s) room by room to your library so you can place onto your residential lot without overwriting what's there - or if you're planning on moving to a larger lot anyway and/or don't mind rebuilding the house, go ahead and save the whole lot to your library and place it onto your new home lot. Then when everything's set up to your satisfaction go into the small business settings and change the location to your home lot. The business itself is tied to the sim who owns it, not the location, so you should be able to move it smoothly. Definitely make a backup of your save before changing anything else though, just in case.

Sounds like that might work, but how can i change it without losing progress on my current business?

  • I believe the mini goats & sheep are meant to be kept on your home lot, so if you go to any other lot with them they will be returned to inventory when you leave - that's so you don't lose them. From your description, I'm assuming your small business is on a dedicated lot, not part of your home lot. Have you considered setting up a residential small business lot? You could use a large lot and build multiple separate buildings, if you don't want home and business to be attached. But then the goats should stay put when you leave, because they're already home.

i dont use mods, but i did what you suggested anyway. However, the issue persists😂

  • If you use mods/cc,try moving the whole mods folder to another place, delete the localthumbcache.package and then test to see if the issue remains without mods/cc there.
