My sims expelled from school

When my teenage sims got home I got the notification that he was expelled. However, a notification appeared that you could not re-register but could obtain a diploma online. This option does not appear anywhere and you cannot register for many careers. What are you supposed to do? I don't want to make him old, I want him to go to school.
