My sleeping sims spirit is out and about but my sim is wide awake

Is this a glitch?  I am using the Skillful Sleeping Mega perk and my sim is supposed to be asleep in bed and his astral body is up and about skilling.  Problem is:  He is wide awake and carrying on his life but the spirit is still up and learning.  I hope this doesn't lead to something too strange or game problems.  He is already the smartest sim in the world.  He is always looking for something new to learn.
