[NOT A BUG] Counters change size when placed in specific way

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? -Go to Work -Spa Day -Perfect Patio Stuff -Luxury Party Stuff -Outdoor Retreat
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Place a line of counters of any type against a wall and then make a 90 degree turn, so that the new line of counters is not touching a wall.
What happens when the bug occurs? The line of counters not touching a wall is of different size, compared to the one against the wall. This results in a not so seamless joint between the counters.
What do you expect to see? The counters should join seamlessly, even if one of the lines isn't against a wall.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

Ran into this issue when building a new kitchen and tried to use the counters to create a not-full-wall wall type of arrangement. I think it might be due to the extra rim some counters create, when placed against a wall, but the same thing happens even with counters the don't do that rim-thingy.

I tested several different counters and they all had the same problem, with just little variation.

  • @Tahidii the functionality is by design, in order to support backsplashes on counters and is not a bug.  We have requested that the functionality be changed in our Build Mode Feedback thread on the forums.  Here is a quote from that discussion on page 69 of the thread:

"regarding the corner counter issue, I think the problem there is when you have a corner counter partially against the wall, the entire object behaves as if it is against the wall, and it changes its size accordingly (as all counter types do when against the wall). I think this was done in order to support backsplashes, and the coding is still there even for counters that don't have them. We might request that it be changed, but I'm guessing that it's tricky. When you place objects up against walls, many of them are actually intruding a bit into the wall because the wall has a thickness that extends beyond the grid line, but the object is sized to fit or snap to the grid. If you don't shrink the object's size a bit in the back, something like a backsplash would be inside the wall instead of against it. What they could maybe do is allow builders to select from and manually place either of the two sizes and also allow us manual backsplash control. I'll add the request to our list."

In addition to posting about it on the forums in the Feedback section, you might also try tweeting a simguru to let them know that this is something that they community desires changed.

How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.50.67.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All of them. Literally.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Place counters along a wall, place corner counter, continue normal counters not on the wall.
What happens when the bug occurs? Corner counters don't line up with the "normal" (middle) counters. When placing counters along a wall, place a corner counter and then continue on from there with normal counters. They don't line up. Hard to explain, but see screenshot for reference.
What do you expect to see? I don't understand the question... I expect the counters to line up.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.

This bug is driving me crazy!

@amyrjackson merged with existing report for this issue.  The behavior is by design (see above explanation).

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Place the pieces as shown
What happens when the bug occurs? Corner piece points out
What do you expect to see? It fitting well with the rest

Attached images show the difference between normal counters and the bugged one from Cool Kitchen Stuff

  • I also have this problem. It looks very stupid and it's a real bummer since it means I can't build my kitchens the way I want to. I understand that it's intentional for the backsplash feature, but the result is that you can't place your counters in this very basic and popular formation if you care about how your kitchen turns out (which I assume most if not all builders do). It seems really weird to not be able to place the counters like this, because it's not some outlandish formation. So I really hope they fix this.

    @riseshinefall

In those cases, if I want a line of counters extending into the room, I instead don't use a corner there. I use a straight one right against the wall and ALT-place another straight counter perpendicular to the first one, precisely lined up:

It actually looks really good if the counters extending out are Islands. It leaves a slight indentation that's perfect for the barstools:
