This is a great idea. I do miss the cute little lizards we could collect in Sims 3 pets and the parrot from Sims Bustin Out. I'd also really like to be able to walk a few dogs at a time because even a short walk can take quite a while and my Sims often have several dogs. It would actually make a great job as a freelancer or as a rabbit hole career, they could arrive home with warm fuzzy puppy love moodlets instead of burnout.
