Re: Cars and not the animated ones

Why does anyone think the game needs to be open world for cars, have none of you ever played Sims 1 or Sims 2? Neither game is open world, in fact Sims 4 is more open than either of those games ever were, yet both games still had cars even if they were just to travel. If EA really wanted to, they could implement cars into Sims 4 and even add simple animations when using them like those in Sims 1 or 2. There's also more they could do with vehicles other than just traveling. Restoration projects, careers (for example an auto repair shop), hell even selling cars with an owned business are just a few ideas I have.

The problem isn't the lack of an open world, the problem is that the game was designed in a way that simplifies travel so much that cars are essentially pointless as traveling tools. In the time it would take for your sim to even walk to their car you could already be at your destination. At the same time though, I still don't think that's a good excuse. Some people want cars, personally I doubt I'd ever use them for travel but then again I feel a lack of vehicles has hurt the immersion of the game.

So if you ask me, there should be no excuses especially for things that were done in previous games. They can make it work if they wanted to.

@valohim666 it's not our reason, it's the established reason that we've been given for years. In fact if you Google it you will find dozens of articles giving the lack of an open world as the reason.
I've played since day one Sims 1.
Players have asked for years to have cars and there are numerous threads on here all giving the same answer.

@simsplayer818 I'm sorry, but it still sounds like an excuse to me. Again, if the first two games can have vehicles there's no reason this one can't too. The fact remains that EA put vehicles into two separate games, neither of which have an open world, so to say it's not possible because of a lack of an open world to me is just silly. If people want to believe that then that's fine, but at the same time I also feel people should actually look to the past games and see what was possible in those before just agreeing with the established reason.

And hey maybe there is something different about this game that won't allow vehicles without an open world, so I won't deny that it could be a genuine reason though that doesn't mean we should all just accept it and not question it.

@valohim666 players have questioned it for years. In fact if you search the key word "cars" on the index page you will see many threads where players have questioned it.
We can't make them add it. In this community we question everything. However we hit a lot of brick walls and on much more important issues than this, like game breaking bugs. But as a community we continue to question everything. In fact we've only recently pushed for more open dialogue and transparency in general.
This subject has been handled by gaming experts, gaming media and more over the years it's all out in the world to read and the same answer always comes back.

@simsplayer818 Well again I'm going to have to disagree with you, but only because you aren't open world. Yep, major factor right there, so just can't agree.

In all seriousness, one thing you seem to misunderstand is that I'm not saying that we need cars, and I'm not asking them to add them in. All I'm saying is that I don't understand why they can't be added, or why more people don't question the reason they've been given. So please keep that in mind.

I definitely agree about the brick walls. In my opinion a lot of that has to due with a lack of dialogue and transparency, so we need more of that for sure and from both sides.

Well, back to tormenting Johnny Zest. I ended up creating a new save with a mean and evil sim, because I figured if all sims were going to act like jerks anyway I might as well embrace the bug. Since I put my sim in Oasis Springs, and since Johnny is the only one living there he's just my target by default. It's kinda odd to do that to him though, especially since in my main save he's not only the first friend my starting sim had but the two of them are married as well.

    @valohim666
I'm repeating a reason we've been given for years, it's got absolutely nothing to do with me.
I saw a player ask a question that I've asked on here myself, I remembered a player kindly took the time to give me some tips on decorative cars as they knew it was disappointing that we don't have functional ones. So I took 20 minutes out of my day to track that thread down for other players as the question has come up again a couple of times, knowing they'd be disappointed in the answer as I was and not wanting to leave them empty handed.
There's nothing to disagree with me about personally. I don't work for EA or Maxis. I'd like cars, I'd like an open world.
Perhaps if you're on Twitter you could ask the devs more directly since it's within their remit to explain their logic.
Have fun with Johnny Zest. I had to delete him for stalking unfortunately. Couldn't get him off my doorstep at Nookstone.

@valohim666 , the reason we keep mentioning cars with an open world is that what most players really want with the addition of cars is the addition of an open world and little to no loading screens.

Sure, most people who have played Sims 1 and Sims 2 (and a few who didn't) would love to have  Sims 2-style cars and they would be perfectly happy! Those people just want to make more realistic houses like their own house, a friend's house, or houses on TV or movies.
But it seems that if the only other Sims game people have played is the Sims 3, or if they are a brand new player to the Sims, then the majority want an open world as well. So yes, EA can give us cars like they did in Sims 2, but a great many people will be majorly let down by this is they expect an open world/no loading screens as well!

A lot of us , such as @jpkarlsen and @simsplayer818,   tend to reply to most discussion about cars with the reminder that we can't have an open world with the Sims 4 game engine, because if we mean Sims 2 style cars then it would be misleading to those people who expect Sims 3 style cars.

Personally, I would love Sims 2 style cars and the materials to make proper garages with automatic garage doors! 🥳 I don't want a completely open world (though open neighborhood would be nice 😉 ).
