Re: Chef isn’t making food in Dine Out

@avalynn1206

Congrats on your new 'Dine Out' pack! I think you'll have fun with this pack! A few things to keep in mind with chefs...

Start off slowly. Stay a bit behind what your least skilled chef(s) is(are) skilled for in work load and food offerings (skill needed to offer which items on the menu). Your staff will slowly increase in skills, and you can gradually enhance your offerings. Your customers will be far more impressed with high quality food that requires a lower skill level than poorly prepared fancy food.

Some additional tips on running the restaurant, in case any are helpful in your case: (Click 'spoiler' tag)

Spoiler
  • Your sim will be the manager of the restaurant, and it will run better if they're on-site. I oftentimes even take a couple of my sims to the restaurant to manage things. The manager will have greeting and additional interactions that come up which will increase the quality of the customer's experience. As you do better, you earn more perks/points, and can hire additional staff or add other features or interactions that will enhance the restaurant's quality, efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Also interact with the staff. Encouraging them, paying for training, etc., goes a long way. Don't forget to give them raises, and don't keep them there overly long or they will be unhappy.
  • Help with clearing tables and keeping things neat.
  • Make sure you are not overloading the staff. greatly reduce the tables available at first and slowly increase them as you can add more staff. For instance, I think each waiter can only handle 3-5 tables. You will have to test to see. and you will need additional cook(s) if you increase tables, also.
  • Customers enjoy a pleasant atmosphere. If your sim sings well, I have even added a mic or karaoke machine and have my sims sing, play an instrument if they have skill, etc. sometimes. Or you can add speakers for music, a fireplace, etc.
  • Lock the kitchen to customers or they will pester your chefs.
  • You may want to add a separate employee bathroom with a door locked to customers.
  • Don't put any tables in a break room or they may count as a restaurant table that the customer cannot reach.

If the Chef or Host either does not show some day at the restaurant, just close and go home. You can re-open and they may show then. you cannot run the restaurant without them, snd sometimes this aspect is buggy. If your cook is not cooking try the same thing. If they really stink you may need to fire them and hire a different cook.

You could try a game repair: [ Open Origin, click 'Game Library' then right-click Sims 4 > Repair Game ]. Make sure to let it run until it has completed all repairs (it will do the base-game first, then run through each of your expansions/packs).

Do you have any Mods/CC, or have you had any in the past? If so please click this spoiler tag and follow the troubleshooting directions:

Spoiler

If you currently have Mods/CC please remove them in this process and try the troubleshooting as described below. (If you don't have Mods or CC, just skip the part about removing the Mods folder, but still delete the cache files mentioned and run the repair.) If you ever had Mods or CC in the past then do the steps as if you have them currently (removing the Mods folder), as there could be damage that has remained after you removed them.

  • Exit your game then exit Origin. Please drag the Mods folder from your 'The Sims 4' folder onto your desktop (for future reference) then delete the localthumbnailcache.package file in your 'The Sims 4' folder. (When you restart the game it will automatically create a new Mods folder.)
  • Next please run a game repair [ Open Origin, click 'Game Library' then right-click Sims 4 > Repair Game ]. Make sure to let it run until it has completed all repairs (it will do the base-game first, then run through each of your expansions/packs). After that, please see if the issue has stopped.

If it was Mods/CC: If this fixes the issue I would recommend that you check with the Mod and CC creators to see if there are any known issues with their Mod/CC clashing with the recent update and if so do they have an updated Mod/CC that will address the changes in the game's code from the update. You can then re-add your updated Mods/CC one at a time to see if one was conflicting with the function/causing the glitch - but do not re-add the old Resource.cfg file from the old mods folder, as it’s possible for it to have become corrupted.

If you have a lot of Mods or CC you can do so by via the 50/50 method. Let me know if you need directions on this.
