Are you getting any lastExceptions ?
There is an issue with stuff becoming unowned when moving but usually that doesn't make it dissappear from what I saw on that bug report.
No LE's given related to this. I had an LE on my original save during this process I had it verified that it was related to glitching coffee maker. The only thing I was receiving (connected to my save) was a message saying my Items were removed from your lot due to me not owning the corresponding pack ... Nothing was missing from my house, just my sims inventory. Any thing I picked up from other worlds that were collectibles; fish, frogs, gems, stones, fossils etc,. I come back to my world they're all gone. I also noticed the game has been taking some repair and upgrade parts and putting them in the household inventory as well.
I tried this without any of my mods in and had the same issue. Tried it with the cheat you suggested with the same save, same issue. As soon as i tried a new save I was able to find items and return home with all items I collected.
