RoM: Potions Always Coming Out Poor Quality

My sim is running a potion store so I have her make a lot of potions. She has completed the alchemy aspiration and is a virtuoso spellcaster, but they would for the most part always come out poor quality. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm usually brewing the Rejuvenation, Immortality, and Resurrection potions. In my experience, it's uncommon for them come out with normal quality, and rare to come out excellent. Especially with the Resurrection potion.

I've been having this problem for a couple of months now and I'd say it's been a little frustrating. I would try and brew the same thing 6 times and have them either fail or come out poor quality. I've only seen one or two forums that were made like a year ago that mention this problem, but I never found a solution. Is the quality of these potions supposed to depend on luck? If so, does the value of the potion make it harder to become excellent quality? Is it a bug or is it just my game? If it helps, I have MCCC and some CC installed. I'd appreciate any help.

  • @sl33pykayla Hello!  Sorry you're having trouble with potions.  I've had mixed results in my game but most of the time potions usually turn out as normal or excellent once I have all the potion perks.  Have you obtained all those?  The practical perk is another good one to have for improved potion making.

Something else that may help is if you have another spellcaster help with the potion while it's brewing.  Do you have another spellcaster in the household?  Also, I did a little research and learned that you can use the Repairio spell on potions to improve their quality after brewing.  I just tested it in my game and it worked!!

  • I would recommend using spells on the potions. Repairio will improve the quality and CopyPasto will make copies so you don't have to brew them anymore.

You'll probably need to use Repairio twice, first to go from Poor to Normal, then to go from Normal to Excellent. Once you have an Excellent potion, place it on a table and use CopyPasto until you reach overcharged or have the desired number of potions. Putting the potion on a table puts the duplicates directly into your personal inventory.

You might also consider putting points into the potion skill tree and/or completing the potion-making aspiration if you haven't already done that.

Yeah, what @JonaO703 and @Sketch793 said.

I think lots of things affect potion quality, including the potion's difficultly, the Sim's spellcaster level, their mood, whatever perks they do or don't have, etc., but you can Repario them.  Until my Sim got all the potions perks I ended up routinely using Repario.

Also, yes, Copypasto for new stock, yes.  (Er.  Unless you set up the shop with the intention of giving her a reason to brew.)

@xochiquetzl_xkvn I think it could be a bug. I have 2 virtuoso spellcaster sims. One has been a spellcaster since ROM released and still he is my best spellcaster. He purchased every perks and he ha d NO problem with brewing excellent potions any time.
Recently, I got a new sim from other simmer, and I leveled him up to the virtuoso level. He mostly purchased magic perks but not all though.
I asked them brew the exactly same perk purging potions. My own spellcaster surprisingly made normal quality of 6 bottles. So I asked him to make that one more time in the more expensive cauldron and made normal quality again. As a result, S sim made one time 6 bottles of normal quality, perk purging potion and my G sim made 12 bottles of normal quality, perk purging potion. They are all virtuoso. I let them make the potions at the magic place where the sages are working.

Oh I tried to brew the potions at home, and all of them are turned out to excellent quality now.
  • I currently have this problem it seems. I tried to brew the same potion trice, all failed, one of them even used up more ingredients than it was supposed to. She's Virtuoso, has all the potion perks, and was in a Confident mood.
