Sim puts cooked meals directly into fridge.

My Sim keeps making meals and putting them directly into the fridge, even when she's hungry. This wasn't a major issue because I would tell her to get leftovers from the fridge and she'd get some... but it was a bit annoying. 
But, for the Winterfest holiday I am supposed to make a Grand Meal and "Call to Grand Meal" but I can't because she keeps putting it directly into the fridge. If I pull it back out of the fridge the "call to grand meal" option isn't offered.

I tried taking away the fridge while she was cooking and she put the food into her inventory. 

I removed all mods and CC and she's still doing it. 

Why won't she just put it on the counter and take a serving?
I looked through other threads on this and similar issues and it was suggested it may be part of the "Neat" trait, but my Sim doesn't have that trait.
