Click on the tile that is on fire, a choise to extinguish the fire should pop up, which makes your sim grab an extinguisher and put out the fire. If YOU catch fire, take a shower to put it out 🙂
It also doesn't help that if something the sim can't get to catches fire, he won't be able to extinguish it, which happened to me 3 times in a row. Also I think the fire-catching from the fireplace is riddiculous since the last patch. Before everything was fine and my fireplace even had a fireproof upgrade done by my sim, now every single thing in a mile distance from the fireplace constantly catches on fire. Nice christmas my sims had...

To EA Games:
I honestly have not felt an urge to play ANY of my Sims games now. All the upgrades and forced buys (upgraded computer to keep up with changes in games bought and paid for and loved and played for hours happily exclaiming how Sims was the best...) in other words, everything good they used to be, no longer. Not interested. Don't play anymore. Don't bother to ask them for help as there is none. Certainly not telling anyone anything except "oh, skip Sims anything", and certainly not buying from them again.
Too bad. We had a good relationship there for a while: literally hundreds of dollars poured into every expansion etc.
EA? Just multiply that by the posts on this topic alone and you can calculate your losses.... so sad.

Yes, fires will start regardless of if it is a holiday or not. Just as in real life.
Fire is one of the most annoying aspects of this game. I know no one, including my 87 year old mother (and I called her to check this is true) that has set up a new christmas tree turned on the lights and it immediately burst into flames. Later today I am going to look at the trees tuning file and see if I can remove that bit of reality.
I also had a sim burn to death while raiding the temple. I exited without saving that time.Fire risk Is one of the reasons all my sim end up doing the gardening aspiration to gain the safe from fire trait. Although even with this they still end up hurt when lighting a campfire.
