Have you tried adjusting the neighborhood stories? They seems to help with that alot in my game. Also, if you want to control everything, there is a setting to turn autonomy off.
I played sims 2 for 10 years. I do miss alot about it, but am still enjoying Sims 4 for right now. But I have everything to reinstall sims 2 if I get bored with this version 😁
Not OP, but turning neighbourhood stories off doesn't even seem to work properly, at least in my game. The sims still contact me to ask me If they should have babies or go on a date. And that doesn't even solve the issues of time passing and my sims getting older while I'm not controlling them.
