Sims can't interact with stray cats and dogs

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.60.54.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Get to Work, Get Together, Cats and Dogs, Island Living, Spa Day, Outdoor Retreat, Cool Kitchen Stuff, Perfect Patio
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try to interact with a stray cat or dog
What happens when the bug occurs? My sims can no longer introduce themselves to stray cats and dogs. The task sits there, but the sim stands and does nothing.
What do you expect to see? Sims should be able to interact with stray cats and dogs.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. I've noticed this happening after the latest patch that came out on January 16.

Sims with pets can still interact with them and can interact with other sims' pets but can't interact with strays.

  • @PrincessCapriana I tested this in my game and I'm having no issues.

Does it matter which type of introduction you use ? Which area to you have problems ? Did you try a different one ? Did you test if it was isolated to a certain Sim/Household/save game or happening everywhere ?
  • I've tried friendly and cautious introduction, and neither work. The only place I've seen strays is Brindleton Bay. I tried by the museum, pet cemetery, vet clinic, dog park, docks, and Salty Paws Saloon. No response at any of those places. I tried three different sims who live in three different towns (Willow Creek, Newcrest, and Brindleton Bay). The one who lives in Brindleton Bay encountered a ghost dog and was able to interact with him, but when she saw Mayor McWhiskers, she couldn't introduce herself. She just sat on a bench while he walked next to it. Two of the sims I tried are male and one female. Two of them were able to introduce themselves to strays before the patch. The one from Newcrest never ventured to Brindleton Bay until I had him try interacting with the strays.

Any feedback you can provide will be much appreciated.

Would you be willing to share your save with me ?

If so, please zip your saves folder and upload it somewhere like dropbox,, googledrive or OneDrive and PM me the link.

Even though you say it happens for all saves, I'd like to see if I can duplicate on your main one.

  • File sent.

I tried again with another sim in that save (the purple alien named Neil Capps). He was able to introduce himself to a cat. I tried again with the human woman I have living in Brindleton Bay (Kenzie Quigley), and she still can't interact with animals she's never met.

The other sims I tried with earlier are Andrew Nickerson in New Crest and Roland Nickerson in Willow Creek. Both are half aliens.

@PrincessCapriana OK. Will give it a try asap

EDIT; So I tested your save, even with only the packs you own installed and I still have no issues.

Does it matter if you initiate the interaction while standing or sitting ?

  • I've tried both sitting and standing. So strange. Any ideas on what could be causing it from my end?

Update:  After not playing for almost 24 hours, I had time to go in again. Introductions to strays seems to be working for me again. I didn't do anything differently, so I'm not sure what happened. Thank you for all your help.

  • I've got a similar problem. My sims can interact with strays however it takes a LONG time to do so and doesn't always work. I have a cat hangout house for one of my families in Strangerville. My strays come by and spend about 30 minutes to an hour ingame time just whining about food according to their thought bubbles. Thay won't eat from my pet bowls. Whenever my sims try to interact the strays won't stop what they're doing until they're finished it seems and may even move on to another action like napping or jumping on a table or counter. Usually that prevents the sim's interaction from working because you can't for example pet a cat that's on the counter or sleeping. And as I've already stated the strays won't stop until they're done. Usually that means the sims just stand there until the stray's supposed action quene ends with them on the ground or the sims drop it from their action queue or the strays decide to leave the lot. I'm not having this problem with the household's two cats. This is frustrating as I'm trying to complete the friend of the animals aspiration with them. I'm also having difficulty mating my cats with the strays much like I read in another forum. Any ideas or people having similar issues?
