Sims freeze without doing anything but time continues

After some play, my sims would completely freeze without being able to perform any queued up interactions, but the time would still continue.

Moreover, when exiting the game I would get stuck on an endless loading screen or the game would freeze without closing.

Restarting doesn't resolve the issue, repairing didn't work. The only thing that somewhat worked was to switch control to another household but the issues returned shortly after.
