Skill Cheats & Style Influencer Career

Does anyone else have the problem where you use the cheat to change a Sims skill level, and it doesn't lower? If so, do you know how to fix it? I need my sim to be level 6 for a style influencer/trendsetter promotion, and I already set her to level 10, but it isn't saying that my sim is level 10.
