yes, the Hermit does have a hidden trait "trait_isMasterHerbalist". The Hermit can be either male or female and needs to be an elder or an adult.
I'm pretty sure that the "original" Hermit is a randomly generated sim, because I've had various Hermits in my different save files.
Did you ever have a premade Sim being the hermit ? That sounds off.
No, not that I'm aware of.
But if I understood it correctly, then BearyBry has been using a mod that prevents the game from generating new townies. So I think that the game might have picked a premade sim as a fallback option in that case, because it wasn't allowed to create the hermit from scratch.
That would probably be an explanation.
