The issue of vegetarian and lactose intolerant trait

In all honesty, I do not consider lot of traits as traits, but what bothers me most is that the vegetarianism and lactose intolerancy are considered as traits. Not only they can take one / two trait slots when you want to make sim that represents you, they are definitely not something that should be named trait. Being vegeterian is not a trait, its preference. Being lactose intolerant isn't trait, its illness and therefore you have some sort of diet.

This brings me to new possible system; Diet preferences. The concept art is not perfect and I plan to work more on it, but it presents the most important aspects of this idea. Dief preferences would be their own category right next to like and dislikes. You could give your Sim any preference you want but you could obviously pick one (with exception of lactose intolerant and glutten free, will get to it). You could change the diet whenever you want.

You can see preference with ?. This particular window gives you option to create custom diet. There are specific diets tied to religions, and while I don't think they would be added on their own, it would be best to give option for creating them. You would pick type of food that doesn't go with the said diet (so you could for example exclude pork meat). Obviously, such system would require update for cooking and recipes, which I understand, but it would be nice, if we could get such system.

Now as I mentioned, lactose intolerance and glutten free are more specific. I do believe there could be another category called "Conditions and allergies" where these two would fit. This category could contain made up chronic illnesses and various allergies; I want to create concept for such system in future.

I understand making this system would be hard, but please, its important to represent various lifestyles and preferences and conditions without considering them as traits. The current representation isn't right.

The problem is that in the game the only way you can implement this is thru traits. You can argue that it shouldn't be one of the major traits but one of the lesser ones you can add as Likes/Disliked. But they were there before that was added. Maybe it will be changed in the next game.

That something is a trait just means that it tells something about the person or here a sim.So being vegetarian are indeed a trait.

Yeah, I agree with you that vegetarian and lactose intolerance should not a trait. I know we have mods which shift this trait to the reward store ingame. If they can’t to this, I think this method would be better fit for such things.

+ if they ever change this, I want to have the option to change my favourite drink from my sims. A normal sim should never have Plasma Jane/Minty Fresh Pet Confection as favourite because they get sick from it.

Little OT; Vegan is not a diet choice. Vegan is a lifestyle. In this sample should vegan be plant-based. To many people don’t understand vegan. Vegan is renouncing of all possible products which use materialise from animals (glue which use animal by-products, honey from bee, clothing which have leather or needed wool from sheep’s and much more…) not only the food thing.

  • Yeah, I know that vegan is lifestyle and I wanted to include this point in my post, but I have no idea how it would be represented. I went for vegan in this concept because its more known, but thank you for telling me this, I will change it in next concept

  • By any chance, do you have a link to the Gluten Free trait? I super want it. I have a traits cheat so I don't have to choose it on the Cas menu. I can't find it anywhere. Like if they are going to do lactose intolerant, why can't they do that one?

I searched for Diet Preference mod too and couldn't find it. ☹️

    Thank you so much,

@PatrickClSim3Low I can see how they could add it in CAS as the principle is already there in Build. We have Lot Traits and then an additional section was added to that with Lot Challenges. I don't see why it couldn't be added in CAS too, also in the way that Likes/Dislikes were added.
I'd like to see it added at some point. I often just leave the dietary requirements off the traits and just play the Sim as Vegan/Lactose intolerant, I have some Fruitarian Sims, raw food Sims and so on. I just remind myself of that as I choose their meals. But if it were incorporated into CAS it would be great.
