Trying to split a household

I had 2 out of my 4 sims get married. I tried to move the 2 married sims next door, and I created a new save file in the same world when I did it. So the other 2 sims stayed in the original house and the 2 married could start their married life together separately next door. But now when I load the original house with the other 2 sims, it takes me back to before the 2 married sims moved out and the house next door is vacant, plus all the renevating I did is gone. I’m thinking where I messed up is creating a new save file for the married sims. Should I have saved it on the original save file so they were on the same timeline?
