Unable to Place Selections In Build/Buy Without Switching Tools

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? Most recent as of 1/15/24
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Most everything, to many to list. Most recent addition was For Rent.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Go into build/buy mode on any lot and make an item/flooring/wallpaper selection. Either place chosen item/flooring/wallpaper and try to place it or move an existing item.
What happens when the bug occurs? Unable to place or delete selected item, item stays attached to cursor as if it was not placed, and you have to change tools inbetween each placement in order to get the item to be placed as normal. The undo button and keyboard shortcut also do not work.
What do you expect to see? Once you left click on the mouse, the item to be placed as normal without having to rotate inbetween tools.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes, MC.CommandCenter is up to date with the July patch (most recent for this mod), Lumpinou' Science Baby Tweak, and Pandasama's Childbirth Mod (+several CC assets).
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Issue Began following most recent patch

  • Hi @Uselezlezbean

    Try the following

    • Close the game
    • Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
    • Repair the game
    • Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry
    • Start a new save game
    • Check if you still have the error
    • Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.
  • I have already tried repairing the game once prior to no effect, will removing the game files really do anything?

@Uselezlezbean It's standard troubleshooting to get rid of left over data (in cache files) and make sure you can test on a mod free game.

You can add stuff back later but this is to find out if it's a game issue or related to your user files/save game/mods.

First only put back your save game

    Copy all content from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old\Saves to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Saves

If there's a duplicate because of the new save you created, either just overwrite the file if you don't want to keep the new save or rename the new one to a different number that hasn't been used.

Now test again. If it still works, you can put the following folders back (just copy the content like you have done for the saves to their respective folders

    - Screenshots

    - Recorded Videos

    - Tray (your houses and households)

    - Custom Music if you have any

    Test again.

If it still works you can move on to your mods folder.

Copy stuff back in groups. Start with CC, most should be fine., then your mods but do make sure they are compatible

  • Hello Crin!!

I have the Sims 4 downloaded on Steam but I don't know how to repair the Sims 4 on Steam or the EA app the only thing I can seem to do is verify the integrity of files by right-clicking on the Sims 4 in my Steam library selecting properties then installed files and clicking verify the integrity of files. I was just wondering if you would know how to repair the game. I haven't been able to repair the game since the Sims team switched from Origin to the EA app.

    Thanks, Hazel <3
