Update Idea to Ghosts

Other than alien, mer-sim, plant-sim, and ghost, I think the life states in The Sims 4 are quite detailed and well-done. Here, I have some suggestions on how ghosts can be re-worked to appear full-fledged and logical.

Needs

Ghosts shouldn’t have as many needs as regular sims. In my opinion, a ghost would only have Fun and Social needs. Other need-based actions should only be taken because of their death types, which brings us to the next point;

Actions / Animations

Ghosts perform need-based actions such as eating, sleeping, or showers because of how they passed away. For example, a sim died from starvation would find something to eat when they appear, but the food would not affect the ghost in any way (See: Appearances). Moreover, ghosts would actively avoid or receive strong negative moodlets when exposed in certain situations, based on their death types. For instance, a drowned sim would avoid going into a pool or open water, and would get a +5 Tense moodlet when they do so.

Right now, ghosts would still route with doors in mind. I think ghost should use a direct-point method for routing since they can pass through solid materials. Their animations can also use some fine-tuning, as they still present the running and stair-walking animations like regular sims. I would suggest ghosts use the floating animation at all times when moving, only difference is their speed.

Appearances

Since ghosts are no longer regular sims, I think their appearances should be locked-in as the day they passed. They should not become fat or lean because of over-eating or exercising. As the food pile is a base game debug object now, I believe it is the perfect time that eating or drinking anything for a ghost should create a food pile or puddle on the floor.

What do you think? Add onto the tread if you have more ideas for this life state!

  • @samsam713, I don't think EA would overhaul Ghosts at this late in the game, even though we probably still have a couple years left, simply because we have had Ghosts since right after the game launched! 🤔  But I do agree with you on pretty much every point you made! 🙂

    Yes, Ghosts should not have a hunger , bladder or energy need. The only way I can see them wanting to do these interactions is if, for example, they died of hunger, then I can see them always wanting to eat (but not having an actual hunger bar/need).  And you are right, their weight shouldn't fluctuate! 🤨 I agree that some of their animations could be more ghostlike, and the Ghosts certainly should have a strong reaction to situations similar to how they died.... they should never want to go near a pool or ocean if they drowned , and if they died from laughter they shouldn't like to hear jokes anymore!

    And while I think the Ghost being the color of the mood he or she is in at any given moment can be helpful , I still prefer the old way of them being the color of what killed them, like yellow for being electrocuted, blue for drowning, ect.  (I know the original Sims didn't do this, and I know that TS3 did do it, but I can't remember if TS2 did it or not, though I want to say that they did. 😳 )  I just really liked that aspect since it gave ghosts a little backstory and more personality. 😉

    Maybe so... ☹️ Still, if they are revamping babies like the recent rumor says, there is certainly hope for this to happen. 😳

    @samsam713, they could be revamping babies, but they also might leave them as is.  This is just a rumor until it is official from EA. 🤨
    EA has stated that the Nifty Knitting pack will allow us to knit onesies for babies, and therefore it is very possible that they might allow a few base game (non-knitted) onesies to be used on babies as well, but there is still no guarantee that the base game will give us new onesies, and therefore the only ones we know for certain will be in the game are the ones from Nifty Knitting.🙂

    That said, the fact that they are allowing anything to be done different with babies (even if it is just clothing) is very promising that they are looking into other enhanced baby function! 🤞

    But, even if they do overhaul babies, this doesn't mean they will overhaul ghosts.☹️  However, if enough people bring the Ghost issue to their attention, they might actually change Ghosts for the better! 😇🤞
