I only started playing Sims 4 about 2 months ago and at first I didn't even know about the whims system. I think I played for about a week before I saw a tip on a load screen and investigated the system. By that point my two main households had sims with several thousand reward points without me even trying to accumulate. This is due to the tie between moodlets and Whims which reward you for playing do your sims mood. I choose to spend the past 3 days in a new household without wants and fears showing and see how many point I got just for playing to my sims mood. The result was next to nothing. Two of my sims had about 200 point and one had 25.
So after this update moodlets feel like they lost about a 3rd of there significance. They still give you access to a ton of action and some boost skill generation but over all the gameplay loop feels fractured as there is far less reward for leaning in to moodlets.
I wish the team would bring back whims and then have wants and fears be something secondary that is more permeant and attached to your Simology but functions like asperation goals.

They also could seperate the option of whims and wants & fears. I disabled whims long ago but now its either everything or nothing of those.
